“Very nice and welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

We discovered quite a lot design hotels and guest houses in Portugal and this was another beautifully renovated old house with contemporary design. The location is excellent, the room (it was a suite) was really big, with a little bit smaller bathroom, but good enough. The staff was very friendly and helpful, giving excellent advice on bars, restaurants and places to see and visit - everybody was very nice and welcoming. There was wi-fi in the rooms, the breakfast was simple, but good and fresh, and the lady helping with breakfast created a really nice and welcoming atmosphere there.

Room Tip: No lift, high ceilings, so no heavy luggage if you want a room upstairs :)

The service at this hotel is fantastic. They spent lots of time explaining the sights and hidden secrets of the city. We got great recommendations for restaurants etc. the rooms are spacious and nicely designed. Only disadvantage is it's a bit noisy from the street.

We loved this little hotel where each room was designed around a theme. The Revolution room was very comfortable with a clean bathroom and comfy bed. You can have breakfast there if you want but we chose to have it in local cafes. The hosts are friendly and we spent time chatting over cups of herbal tea. The hotel is absolutely central with plenty of places to eat nearby.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Revolution room which was up 3 flights of stairs but very comfy.

Business trips usually mean that you are going to need to get up earlier than usual breakfast, to be close to your destination site, to have a reliable Internet access, and to have good lighting for those who need to work up late.
Évora Inn Chiado Desgin Hotel proved to be just adequate on these accounts. The rooms our little group stayed in were smallish yet originally decorated. They provided a strange contrast with the bathrooms that were large and rather plain.
When we climbed up the stairs to our rooms, we were able to appreciate a great view of the Cathedral. In the evening, the rooms turned out be very badly lit, to the point that it was impossible to work.
Climbing into a bed, I slept quite badly because of the cold bed and the noise on the street till 3 am. In the morning, it was hard to get up and go into a cold harsh-looking bathroom. There were not enough toiletries in it.
Our intention to have breakfast at 8.15 appeared to create some logistics problem for our otherwise very welcoming and helpful hostess. So we had to sit on the stairs and wait for another member of the staff to come and open the lounge for us. Our breakfast was quite rushed, as a result.
So mixed feelings. I would come back, I think, but on a more relaxed trip.

The two main positive aspects are the location, right in the centre of beautiful Évora, a city with spirit, and the kindness of Ms Maria José Ventura, the devil-do-all of the place. The decoration of the hotel is interesting and original, our room was spacious and comfortable.
On the negative side:
• there is no parking (it cost us 12,30 € overnight at a parking 100m away - no discount arrangement between hotel and parking administration),
• there is no lift (our room was on 1st floor, others are higher),
• the brochure of the hotel promises a price reduction for reservations made in advance (are there any others?), but we paid the full high season fare, on a Friday in December, to be paid upon arrival,
• it was the only hotel where both of us had to present our passports,
• being in the centre of town on a busy streets has its inconveniences - and we like to sleep with the window open, so we had some noise from loud people passing by,
• last but least: there was a horrible smell in the bathroom when we came in, partially solved by an extra wc-deodorant supplied by the hotel's owner, but the problem was already present in August 12, and even in August 11 (see other reviews).

I stayed @ the hotel last weekend. The suite was very nice and the price payed good for the quality. The staff is very friendly and also very helpfull. They have free internet either by wifi on the living room either by cable. The room has air conditioning and design furniture. The wc was small but we are in an old building that was all remodeled...
Overall it was a nice experience and we enjoyed the stay.

Room Tip: The suite has the possibility to extend to 2 extra beds

The Evora Inn is a small friendly hotel situated close to the center of Evora.
Our room was a bit small but very comfortable and quiet. We especially want to acknowledge the assistance of Eliza and Louis, both very friendly and made our stay even more enjoyable.
