The fact that it's a typical 'monte' from Alentejo with a stylish twist; The genuine contact with nature; The feeling of being in the countryside although only 6 km from Évora city; The lavish breakfast based on local produce, till 11.30am - no need to wake up early; The opportunity to getting to know the other guests: the house has only 4 rooms, and has common rooms and kitchen. / The 'honesty groceries bar': There's a wide selection of wines, crisps, biscuits, jams - in a 'you take you pay' system. / Possibility to ask management for organized sight seeing tours; A member of staff called us before-hand to answer our requests (my friend is wheat intolerant) and to 'invite' us for a tour happening in one of the days.
The price/benefit relation. 80 euro/night do not pay for:
the fact that there is no reception: when you arrive you have to call some number in order to get in. It's not the kind of service you would except; echoes from people talking in the hall; squeaking beds (mattress not very comfortable btw); the noise from the old fashioned lockers on the doors, with key; rooms are not sound proof; No gel douche in our shower. The fancy bottle was actually empty! Later I told that to a nice lady that doesn't speak any English and her naive answer was: why didn't you tell me that before? (When exactly, during the shower?) - The shower leaked, btw. - The accesses to the farm are poor. In a particular section of the road, there's only space for one car. I honestly wouldn't have known what to do if another came appeared in from of me.
Bottom line: This place is nice, no doubts about that. The people working there are nice. But being Portuguese myself I can see that the place is a tourist trap. The owner says: 'Please keep in mind there are only 4 of them [rooms], so it's not easy to be cheap! Also you pay for the room but also to "have" your own farm for a day.' Right, but if you're only looking for a couple of nights in a relaxed place, why do you have to pay 80 euros per night for that? And it's not that relaxed anyway, with all the noises I referred.
