“Standing stones that predate Stonehenge by 2000 years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

This is an absolutely breathtaking site and makes you feel amazed to be standing with stones that are so old. You can get here by getting a tour from Evora. It is a personal tour by a local archaeologist who knows everything about the sites and cork trees. It cost 25 euros per person, a great deal considering you get a ride there and a tour. His e-mail address is eboramegalithica@gmail.com.

It was absolutely amazing!

“Bad transport connection”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

You can't get there from Evora by bus or scooter rental. Only with a tour guide which costs 25 euros per person and on a bike, but it's a long way to pedal.

“No words can really express the feeling”

If you like megalith sites, you can not miss this one, as the most ancient in Europe. No crowds, no noises, only you alone to enjoy the place. Marvelous!

“Magical mystery tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

This is a serene and lonely place--enormous stones arranged in an oval, strange and otherworldly in a way. So nice to have peace and quiet, no tour buses or souvenir stands, just the silence of the stones. The formation obviously had significance, though its purpose is unknown. What an amazing feat to have been able to bring so many heavy monolithic stones to this hillside back in 5000-4000 BC. This is an enchanted place, one to reflect and consider life so many years ago.

“If only they could talk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

We read about the stones on trip advisor and decided to make it a part of our vacation. We had a difficult time trying to find the markings on the stone but still enjoy them. A must see if you go to Evora. The best were the Cork trees. Wow, didn’t know that they was a cork tree. I always thought that cork was compressed wood. The trees are a great backdrop to the stones. The road there is pretty rough but fun.
