“Great food, lovely atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

We were so lucky to spend our first and our last night here. With only nine stools at the bar, it's pot luck! Food and wine were delicious and reasonable and there is a lovely warm and friendly atmosphere.

“tiny in size but huge in flavour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Thought we would try something different, very happy we did! this is a husband and wife team, she cooks, he takes care of the front end - a tiny place with only bar stool seating. Two locals were just vacating as we arrived so luckily got their seats - otherwise, you have to wait in the street.

three of the biggest wine bottles ever decorate the bar

home style cooking rather than gourmet but flavourful and cooked as you like (steak well, medium etc) - steak was melt in mouth tender!

but also fun was rubbing shoulders with other diners - two girls from Russia, a couple from France, 3 other Portugese tourists and us - made for a lively mix as the wine flowed, plates were cleared and people laughed, an animated babble of different languages, handwaving and lip smacking

felt like a private party - thanks to the owners for hosting such a delightful evening

“something a bit different”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

The menu is not very extensive and neither are the seating arrangements, but the food is great and the fabulous Alentejo wine selection make it worth the trip. The restaurant doesn’t take bookings and seating (stools at the bar) is limited to nine although this number seems to vary when you read other reviews, which I guess attests to the fine wines available!

From what I could see there is only a staff of two, the owner and main character Domingos Canelas ably assisted by his wife Florbella. The seating arrangements make for an intimate and chatty meal which for me consisted of a few starters followed by fish then steak, washed down by some very nice local wines, all very very good. The chips that accompany the main course are particularly tasty and cooked (I am told) in local olive oil.

My hotel, the Albergaria do Calvario recommended this hotel and they got it spot on.

“Best in Evora”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

We absolutely love this restaurant, every time we're in Evora we make a point to visit it. It's simply the best food around, absolutely delicious. It's very small (it only sits 9 people if I'm not mistaken), and they don't take reservations, so make sure to show up early.

“Must visit in Evora”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013 via mobile

Tiny restaurant on a side street in Evora but the food and wine are outstanding. It's like visiting with a family in Portugal and tasting their specialities that would be served to family and friends.
