Everything about this place is very unique, including, yes the drive up to the castle, with hair-spin twists and turns, but that is all part of the breathless experience that you won't forget. We had a lovely room, almost a suite, with a separate sitting area, handsome bath, and ceilings that must have been almost 18 feet or higher. The bed was a four poster, maybe a reproduction, but a convincing one! There was an alcove with a large window with both interior and exterior shutters. When opened, we had a commanding view of the entire country-side and the village at our feet, plus swallows that swooped just outside our window to mud-nests attached to the turrets. The pool was lovely, the garden charming, even if it was early in the season and pots had not yet been planted. There were lovely shrubs and flowers in beds in bloom. Dinner and breakfast were served in separate, but equally grand, large dining rooms. It seemed a shame no one else was dining either at dinner or breakfast. Breakfast was a sumptuous buffet that we lingered over but still saw no one else dining. We wonder what they did with all the left over food, so elegantly prepared and laid out, with apparently no one else interested in dining there? The large public spaces, long corridors, lobbies remind you that you are, indeed, in a castle, not just another typical hotel. The front desk was very friendly.
