“Secluded rural retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2011

The cottage was great: more spacious than it looked on the website, and pretty well equipped. We were very comfortable, and loved the birdlife and kangaroos around us. Given some of the prices charged in the Clare Valley, this was very good value for the quality provided. Excellent home-made bread, and copious quantities of bacon and eggs, made for good breakfasts.

The only downside for us was the pillows, which were rock-hard, and we ended up using some of the cushions from the sofa instead. Obviously this is a very personal thing, but I thought I'd mention it in case others have the same experience.

This place is very good overall; I do have one improvement to suggest, which is putting a larger table in the main room, or perhaps a coffee table. There is just the small table that seats two, and nowhere else to put anything, so at breakfast time all books, maps, binoculars etc have to be cleared off the table to make room to eat. Equally, the kitchenette corner gets impossibly cramped when the electric frying-pan and toaster are in use - there's nowhere to slice the bread! So a bigger table or an extra one would be really useful, and there's plenty of room for it.

Sorry ...the new, large digital TV had been placed on the coffee table, while we were waiting for the maintance person to come in and fit it on the wall. It is now fixed and the table available for normal use.
Additional pillows have been supplied for those who prefer softer pillows

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2010

Have stayed here many times and absolutely love it. Beautiful location on a hillside surrounded by gumtrees and only 15 minutes to the major town in the region, Clare. Huge breakfast provisions with cereal, bacon, eggs and fresh bread and port to keep the cold away at night! Were only 5 mins away from the riesling trail and had lots of fun heading out and wine tasting and eating at all the local wineries. Keep a look out for PJ the dog and make sure you take a walk to see the kangaroos on the hill!
