“Switzerland at its best”

We stayed here in early July. This is a great starting point for hiking in Switzerland. The Binn valley offers hiking that is much more tranquil than other parts of the country. The staff were knowledgable about hiking and gave great advice about trails. This is not a town with lots of entertainment but it is a great launching point for a great hiking experience. The hotel therefore is not an urban hotel but rather a great place to have a mountain experince. As a unilingual anglophone language was never a problem at the hotel. The room was clean and we were fortunate to have our own bathroom and shower. We loved the Ofenhorn and would love to return.

“Characterful but overpriced”

This hotel has a lot of character as it is one of the Swiss Historic Hotels and it has recently undergone extensive renovation. However, we thought it was very overpriced, possibly as a result of the recent expenditure. For CHF170 per night for a double room, we had shared toilet and shower facilities on the landing, and then only 3 showers and 2 toilets for about 12 rooms. There were no toiletries provided anywhere except for one sachet of shower gel per person for our 2 night stay. The breakfast was limited with a small choice of cereals and no fruit, eggs or birchermuesli which is typically Swiss and which we have had provided in much cheaper hotels. A cup of mint tea in the bar cost CHF4.50.
