Moody Gardens is a great reason to visit Galveston, especially with your family, but make sure you save some money before you go. The aquarium is nice, though not extremely large. Still they have a good amount of fish and birds, with the penguins always a hit. The rainforest pyramid is well done too, with an area where butterflies will land on you, and birds and monkeys moving around freely throughout the pyramid. Included in all of this are great educational opportunities for you to talk with your children. The 4D Wizard of Oz movie is a lot of fun, with moving seats, and air and water blowing on you. Again, this is geared towards the kids. The 3D IMAX is great too; the largest screen in Texas. The Colonel paddleboat ride is very relaxing, cruising for about an hour out into the bayou and back to Moody Gardens. The paddleboat is slow moving though, so the kids could get restless. You can easily make a day of Moody Gardens, but like I said, bring your wallet, because everything I just listed will run you about $50 a person.
