“Another great stay for our UK vehicle restoration buffs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2010

Friendly and attentive service afforded our group of classic vehicle enthusiasts. We stayed here for our earlier Rally and it is always good to return to The Albion. I know that some of our group will make return bookings in the future.
The central but quiet location only minutes from the Menin Gate and the Grote Markt make it ideal

Another enjoyable stay at the Albion. I have visited Ypres over several years now and find that the Albion gives the best service and facilities. This time my brother joined me for his first visit - together with his son, my nephew. We booked late and Christiana squeezed us in to the last twin room with another bed installed. We worried that it might have been a squeeze but it was fine for our needs. All the facilities that you would expect were there and it contributed to a another successful visit to our Uncle Horace who was killed on 6th September 1917. As usual the service from the staff was excellent - nothing was too much trouble. Great base for anybody visiting the Salient.

Stayed 1 night . Staff were friendly and helpful and we particularity appreciated there agreement to leaving car in car park for extra night while we were cycling . However although room was large it was fairly utilitarian with my particular dislike an old TV stuck high on the wall . The bed was just about ok sheets on the bed were very rough and although the shower was over the bath it was of a good standard . Breakfast was reasonable with a good spread although the practice of putting a few rolls and pastries out at a time was rather frustrating . Overall an ok hotel but at a price that suggested it should have been better

Location, location, location is just as vital when selecting a place to stay as a place to live. The Albion Hotel in Ypres (now renamed Ieper) is perfectly situated if you wish to pay your respects to the Fallen of the First World War (obscenely nicknamed The GREAT War).

It is within hearing distance of the daily Last Post at the magnificent Menin Gate and within a comfortable stroll of the Market Square with its fascinating Flanders Fields Museum (Cloth Hall) and parade of shops and fine cafés and restaurants.

Terms are on a bed and breakfast rate that will not break the bank, and you will find an exceptionally relaxing and refined ambience, with a very friendly family staff and rooms that are pleasant, clean and inviting.

My partner, Jackie Jones and I, have no hesitation in giving it a 9 out of 10 recommendation. Only the fact that they do not provide hot meals on the premises stops me giving it 10 out of 10, but the nearby restaurants can satisfy gourmet appetites.

We shall return, Norman Giller and Jackie Jones, England

We stayed at the Albion Hotel in late July for three nights as part of a 'battlefield' trip and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very centrally located, being a two minute walk to the Menin Gate and a further couple of minutes to the Cloth Hall. The hotel is family run and very quiet. The building, we were told, was purchased by the current owners and has been completely redeveloped, under their guidance, to a high standard. Our room was very clean, spacious, well appointed, with a separate, modern contemporary bathroom. Christiana, her daughter and husband were all very welcoming from the moment of our arrival and helped with pointing us in the right direction regarding places of interest locally and recommendations for local restaurants. The hotel provided a good breakfast which was ample for our needs and the service was good. Car parking was also a bonus, in that we were able to park outside the hotel for free for the whole period of our stay. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for quality accommodation at a reasonable price whilst visiting the area. Just one downside was the fact that the hotel only provided 'free' Wi-Fi access for twenty minutes after which it was available at a hourly or daily/bi-daily rate. The hotel bar also closed at 11pm, which was a bit disappointing but that said, most of the other bars in the town also seemed to close around this time too. Ypres is not, you will quickly appreciate, from any fleeting visit, a party town. This is perhaps particularly true from Mid July-Mid August, when the town apparently takes an annual holiday and the restaurants and bars close down!! A good hotel though.
