This is my 3rd review of The Ariane - well,if one visits again it's important to do a review to indicate whether or not standards are being maintained; in the case of this hotel, I can confirm that they are!
We always stay at The Ariane at the end of a holiday in France; we sail back to the UK from Zeebrugge & Zeebrugge is only a comparatively short drive from Ypres, so it is convenient. It also means that we are ending our holiday on a "high" so to speak - ie with a couple of days in a nice place, staying at a lovely hotel, and then having a leisurely drive to the ferry. We usually stay 2 nights, but this time we treated ourselves to 3.
The hotel is well situated in Ypres - away from the busy bustle of the main square, but within easy walking distance of everything you would want to visit. On-site parking.
This is a family-owned & family-run hotel, with a number of long-serving staff; This reflects in the way the hotel is run: ie attention to detail, courtesy, a wish to ensure that customers are happy, pride in the hotel, etc. All staff are friendly & approachable.
The hotel is modern with light & airy public rooms & bedrooms; the latter are a good size, with a large comfortable bed, equipped with everything you might need, including air con & (free) wifi.
Attractive dining room, + large conservatories where meals are also served, as well as an outdoor paved area beyond the conservatories, with tables/sun brollys, where you can have a drink & the snack menu can be served.
The menu for the evening meal is not extensive but the food is delicious & nicely presented. Dinner is also quite expensive, but portions are large so 1 course may be sufficient!
Breakfast is an extensive buffet - very good.
Although most people visit Ypres to see the war graves etc, Ypres is actually a good base from which to visit other places; for example, you can quickly get to the coast, whilst Bruges & Ghent (both well worth a visit) are no distance at all in the car. And you can soon be in Brussels by train. If you need it, the helpful staff on reception will always be happy to advise re any such excursions
Ypres itself is of course a fascinating place; in addition to the museum & cemeteries etc, a walk along the walls is really nice.
We stay at many hotels around Europe, so know a good hotel when we see one, & The Ariane is certainly that. You can be assured of a friendly welcome, and of a relaxed & contented stay.
