“One of the sights to see”

Get there early regardless of the weather. It was pouring on the day we elected to visit the memorial and we arrived approximately 45 minutes prior to the ceremony and were still not able to get a good view.

“Moving Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

Attended two last post services, it was wonderful to see some many people come along. Both nights were different the first night being a small group, was emotional, the second night impressed to see a band and group of students from South Africa.

“Moving and a "Must"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We went to the Last Post Ceremony on Thursday night and we were fortunate to have a group from Scotland paying tribute too. A bagpiper played ... and it was so moving.

We wondered whether the ceremony might be simply 'going through the paces' after all these years - but nothing could be further from the truth. There was total respect for our Diggers and all who lost their lives in this terrible theatre of war. Well done to all who play a part in this emotional but very significant service.

“Very moving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Visited some of the war grave sites and in particular Thiepval to place a poppy in memory of an uncle I never knew at this memorial. So many names and so many young men. Also witnessed the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate. You cannot fail to be moved by this ceremony. A lone trumpeter played the last post on this occasion and the respect shown by all in attendance was outstanding. Long may this tradition remain. It conveys the respect we should all feel for those who gave their lives during both both world wars and those who have recently lost loved ones in the armed forces.
It is well worth spending a few hours there and visiting St Georges Chapel - a beautiful church a little off the main square. Yres is a beautiful little town and well worth a visit.

A thought provoking experience, do not miss it - a fitting tribute to all the brave soldiers who died in WW1, and a memorable experience
