“A good find.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

A great little find of a B&B. Very close to the the town centre, at most a 10 minute walk. The breakfast was great and Nelson the crazy cat says hello to everyone in the morning. The 6pm check in time is a little late if you want to get something to eat before the 8pm ceremony at the Menin gate. The room we had was good but could do with a comfy chair and a couple of shelves. I would suspect that most visitors will be British/English speaking WW1 tourists so it would have been nice to have had some English speaking TV channels. We will be going back the next time we visit as it's a great location and Roger & Muriel make you very welcome

We found Cavells excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. It had a small shower cubicle and washstand, but the lavatory was shared by the floor. The walls were a bit thin, so you could hear people in adjoining rooms.

Breakfast was good and the hosts (Roger and Muriel) were welcoming and unobtrusive.

We partook of Roger's guided war grave and battlefield tour and he was very good, helpful, knowledgeable and humane. He is informative and helpful and drove us everywhere in his car.

The Flanders Museum is a must, and is a engrossing and sobering experience. The Last Post at the Menin Gate is also memorable, though the crowds (in November) were huge. The restaurants just past the Museum, set back to the left, were very good.

Our visit to Ieper taught us a lot and was food for thought.

We stayed for four nights at the end of October as part of a cycling holiday. The hosts were very friendly and the rooms comfortable and clean. The area was ideal for cycling or visiting local First World War sites. The host (Roger) does organised tours of battle sites. The free off road parking opposite was an added bonus.
The centre of Ieper, The Menin Gate and the Station are all within walking distance. The Grote Markt offers a variety of places to eat and drink and is the site of a busy market on Saturday mornings.

Room Tip: At the moment the room on the ground floor is the only en suite room. The others have shower and was...

We have just returned from a 3 day break in Ypres. Roger and Muriel were very friendly and welcoming, the breakfast was great, the mattresses were very comfortable, free parking and just a 5 minute walk into town.
Roger treated us to a local tour and was full of knowledge.
All in all, a fantastic retreat, we will be returning!

Room Tip: If you want your own toilet, choose the downstairs room.

An excellent B&B in the centre of a lovely town. Being able to park free outside the front door - a bonus. Our room (No. 3) was spacious, modern and spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed. This room benefits from a spacious balcony with table and chairs overlooking the small but perfectly formed garden; unfortunately too wet for us to benefit but looking forward to returning in better weather. Roger and Muriel are delightful, providing a warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast offered a good selection and was a convivial affair around one table providing a great opportunity to chat with other guests. An honesty fridge in the dining room is kept stocked with soft drinks (1euro each) and fresh milk (free) so much better than milk 'capsules'. All in all a great spot, we will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Room 3 has a balcony and overlooks the garden.

Roger and Muriel are a very engaging couple, Ieper is a beautiful town and an excellent base for touring, the B&B is very clean and very conveniently located (free parking, and less than a 5-minute stroll into the centre), the breakfast is excellent, and yet….. well, I’d still like a little more when paying 90 Euros a night, for example:
- A kettle is good, but a drink’s too wet without a biscuit or two
- Liquid soap from a dispenser is okay for hand washing, but a small bar for the shower, please
- A credit card facility
- Sleep beyond 6.30 without requiring ear plugs (street life and house life prevents this in the downstairs room)
For anybody not suffering from mobility problems, an upstairs room overlooking the garden would seem to be the best option.

Clean, friendly and white, much like myself. The single room was fine for me. Don't miss the stunning mural on the rear garden wall. The Flanders Field Museum is but ten minutes walk away but don't miss St.George's Church and the lovely cathedral. The famous Tyne Cot Cemetery is easily reached on a 94 bus from the bus station, one an hour, for 3 euros. If the return journey is undertaken within two hours, that trip is free. Take a walk around the Ramparts to get away from the hot sun.
