Owner description: Full scale reconstructions of war scenes, an extended collection of weapons, war equipment and photos make this museum to a true must-see!The chapel, in which the museum is located, dates back from the early twenties. This chapel was built directly across the Hooge Crater cemetery in memory of the many fallen soldiers on the battle fields of ‘Hooge’ over a period of 4 years. Rare military clothing of the troops, that where fighting in the ‘Ypres Salient’ (Ieperboog) are exposed in glass displays. Also you can see some full scale scenes of the Great War battle fields, very authentically reproduced. The theme of the scenes is very divers: German bunkers, British trenches and full scale horses with cavalry troops on their backs.

“Super little museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

Well worth stopping off and visiting this great museum. Good value. Lots of exhibits and information. Nice cafe and clean toilets. Worth crossing the road to the war cemetery which is surprisingly big.
Also, visit mine crater at hotel 100 yards along road along with some trenches and bunkers. Donations welcome.

“Good museum for original WW1 artefacts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Good little museum here (much better than the Sanctuary Wood Museum!!) ... An adult ticket is €4.50 I believe ....cheaper for students and children.

Some of the previous reviews say that there is so much to see, which is partially true in my opinion - Yes, there is a lot to see, but I think you can comfortably see everything on offer within 60-90 minutes. There are a lot of original artefacts on display but most of these have no descriptions, so they are for viewing pleasure only.

There is also a cafe/restaurant on site....

My advice....if you have time to kill, and if its a good day. take a leisurely 45-60minute walk from Menin gate in Ypres, to museum hooge crater. There are a few places to stop off on the way and it is pretty much a straight road.

“Very good museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

This is really well done and a indicated route takes you logically through the place. Take your time there is plenty to see. The remains of the crater are across the road at the far end of the cemetery although it is filled in now
