Dear fellow travellers, please be very aware about the kind of hotels you are reviewing. I have used this hotel several times before for work (not by choice) and the room and food are average for what is supposed to be a 4* establishment. Nothing special but adequate for one night.
I last stay there on 24th May 2013 and after spending full price on the room, restaurant and drinks, I realised that I left in my room a beautiful silk scarf which is a present from my dear Mother. I contacted the hotel, and the owner, told me that yes, they had it and asked me for my credit card details as they wanted 10 euros to send it back. I was very surprised and questioned it as I found this indelicate and absolutely excessive. They told me they had to buy an envelope and pay for the staff to spend half hour at the post office. This is absolutely shocking, since I am sure they already have envelope at the front desk and they must go to the post office on a regular basis. The silk scarf is very light and doesn’t take any space once folded.
I shared my dissatisfaction with them as I don’t think it is right to profit from a genuine mistake and since my company has spent ridiculous amount of money in this hotel over the years, it was basic good manners and customer service that to send it back without actual making money on this.
This owner was adamant that I had to pay if I ever wanted to see my scarf back and I gave her my credit card number and ask for recorder delivery. I think for 10 euro, it is a fairly sensible request.
I sent 7 emails since asking for them to confirm the delivery and it is now over two weeks and the owner has completely ignored all my emails and basically stole my scarf. They went completely silent and I am so upset by their arrogant and unprofessional attitude.
I don’t even know what they did with my credit card details. It is absolutely shocking and distressful.
When my company stay, we always pay full price and never had any reduction or recognition for our loyalty and they simply stole a very precious present from my mother out of spite because I dared tell them I was unhappy about paying an excessive amount for getting my scarf back.
I think it is important than other travellers are aware of the attitude of the hotel management as you will also be treated with contempt. You are nothing more than a credit card to them and they are quite happy to profit from anything they can (and hang on to your belongings!). This is a service industry and I really can’t comprehend how any hotel owners could act in such an arrogant and disrespectful way. It’s unkind and lacking in compassion.
So, I still want my silk scarf back in the state it was when I left it in the room. I told them I will pay the 10 euro but that they will never see me again. It was brand new and I want nothing to do with this people even again. There is another hotel very near in old stone building which offer superior accommodation, service and more refined foods for a similar price. It is a no brainer.
I am absolutely degusted.
