“New Year In Belgium”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Melinda Hotel, as part of Leger Holidays New Years Break.

Our bedroom No 116 was small but the beds were comfortable and bathroom very clean. The wardrobe space was limited but adequate. The TV in the room did not have any english channels.

The staff in the hotel were very polite and friendly

We stayed on a half board basis: the contintental breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon, a variety of meats, cheese, fresh fruit, yoghurts, croissant, choc au pain and breads. It was delicious!!

Negative: The breakfast room was small and could not always accommodate all the guests in our party.

As we were part of a group we were given a set menu for dinner but did have the option to choose something else if necessary. The food was good quality and appetising apart from Chervil Soup which was disgusting!!!

Negative: The restaurant area was small and it also doubled up as the bar. The hotel did not have a bar lounge for guests to relax in after dinner, apart from two settees in a dark corner.

The entertainment in the hotel consisted of a man and his electric organ. Not my taste in music but New Years Eve was good fun when the guests joined him in the songs.

Ostend is a small seaside town with a long seafront and sandy beach, it was very bracing walking down to the seafron on New Years Day

We also visited Bruges and Brussels during our stay in Belgium which were fabulous

This trip was worth the money and although the hotel had its small faults was perfectly adequate for a short stay holiday as we were out of the hotel for the majority of the time. I just wish they would update their guest facilities and offer more up to entertainment.

A pleasant and very convenient location for exploring Ostend.
The hotel only occupies the first four floors of the building and some of the rooms are a little on the small side.
There is only one guest lift serving all four floors and will only take 4 average sized persons at a time so there can be quite a wait at busy times.
The dining area for breakfast is barely adequate to cater for all guests although the breakfast food choices were good.
Unfortunately, there is no proper lounge area for guests to relax and have a drink and the other facilities in the hotel are rather basic.
Having said all that, this hotel represents good value for money and the staff were friendly and helpful and I would come back again.

Modern(ish) hotel. We visited on a coach trip as many do. Because of this there was only one dinner choice but if this wasnt suitable you could have a salad. The food we had was good. At breakfast there is the usual continental choices plus bacon and egg all of which was quickly refreshed. The rooms were clean with spotless towels and linen The only criticism I would have is that there is no bar except for the one in the restaurant so you have to take your drink to the balcony. Fine if you are a smoker but not so good if you are an unwilling passive smoker.

A Nice modern Hotel with all facilities.
We had a room with a balcony which was great to sit out in the late evening
We stayed half board the breakfast and dinner were excellent good food and service
Very friendly and helpful staff
A great plus is that there is FREE parking all around the hotel.
We have stayed here twice and would certainly go back to this hotel

Room Tip: Try to avoid a room next to the lift

we stayed in this hotel for 3 days/2 nights. the staff was very friendly. double room small and basic, viewing the park, and an ensuite bathroom. the breakfast was buffet form, and satisfiying.
the hotel is located in the centre of Ostend, near the Mercator ship in the harbour. this hotel is okay if you want to stay for only a few days. you can also eat lunch and diner in the restaurant.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a bigger room.

My room was a small double room with a small ensuite bathroom, the bath worked OK but the shower did not seem to work. It was still adequate for my 5 day stay. It was very local to the town centre. The bedroom and bathroom were kept clean, towels were also clean and changed during my stay. Not a lot of storage space in the wardrobe, small single wardrobe with a few small drawer spaces above. I had a TV in my room and telephone also. I slept very well as the room was very quiet and was kept well heated as the outside temperature was a bit on the low side. The breakfasts were adequate with choice of cereal, breads, small danish pastries, tea, coffee, orange juice and fruit salad. The evening meal was a set menu, but you could change the main course to omelette or salad if you did not wish to eat the main meal. All the staff were extremely polite and helpftul, English was not a problem to them. In general I found this hotel comfortable, clean and satisfactory. I enjoyed my stay!
