“Must reconsider many things”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

1 - Arrived to the hotel and sent us to the garden view room which in fact is the bin view. Had no time to complain as we were going to the restaurant outside the hotel and did not want to arrive late. DO NOT ACCEPT ROOM 603.
2 - Room is dirty. Did not use or clean for weeks.
3 - Service is poor. Check out is at 1200. My wife was doing a very expensive spa treatment at 1130 lasting for 75 min. Asked the hotel desk to check out at 0100 and they said it was not possible as they needed the room at 0300... So I asked her to go and pick my wife up from the spa... She reconsidered her position and after asking her manager she accepted we leave at 0100.
4 - In the invoice they add a contribution to an NGO without even asking.

If you pay 500 EUR for one night you expect a little bit more.

Room Tip: Go definitely to the main building.

Very large and comfortable room. We stayed for two nights and were very satisfied. Just a few minutes walking distance to Markt, Burg, and lots of eateries. During our stay there was a business conference taking place at he hotel, and they reserved the whole restaurant, so we didn't have a chance to eat there.

My partner and I stayed here in December 2012. The hotel is stunning and in a great location, we walked everywhere - from the hotel it was only a 5 minutes to the square.

The standard of the hotel was high, we stayed in a junior suite, it was spacious and well decorated, the bathroom was very nice with an amazing bath!

Our suitcase was lost in transit so we only had the clothes we travelled in, the staff were very helpful, they rang the airport for us several times each day of our stay trying to track the missing case down. Jasmine in particular was extremely helpful. Our case turned up on the day we left, we were, thanks to mario, able to change in the spa as we'd had to check out of our room.

Upon arrival I was overwhelmed to find that my partner, very much assisted by dukes palace staff, had arranged for flowers to be in our room, when we retuned to our room later in the evening there was a bottle of champagne and chocolates along with a note, my partner explained that the note should have been delivered with the flowers, he'd mentioned that the note was missing and staff had arrange a complementary bottle of fizz and chocs by way of apology!

We'd gone out one evening to eat at a restaurant we'd been to the night before, unfortunately they were very busy and couldn't offer us a table. We went to the hotel bar instead, my partner had a very nice burger, I'm a very fussy eater, I didn't fancy anything on the menu and asked if they would do a plain omelette and chips, they accommodated this request without hesitation and it was the best omelette I've ever had! All the bar staff were charming.

I would recommend this hotel if you're planning a visit to Bruges, I couldn't fault it.

This was my second trip to the Kempinski in Bruges and, second time around, it did not disappoint. Service was faultless from beginning to end. We were in hoodies and jeans and the staff were as smiley and as helpful as they were to every other guest around.

We loved our previous room in the old part of the hotel and thought we'd try the new wing, with the garden view. The room was lovely, possibly a little larger, looking out at the big red poodle - fabulous! The bed was huge and comfy and we didn't hear a sound from outside or from the corridor (room 417). I was really pleased to see that the amenities don't contain petrochemicals - haven't seen that kind of thoughtfulness in toiletries in other hotels.

Breakfast was great, everything is presented beautifully. We weren't hungry enough to do justice to it all but I really enjoyed my freshly cooked omelette with smoked trout and fresh bread and the opportunity to try different types of old Bruges cheese. I had freshly squeezed raspberry juice - gorgeous. There was a chocolate station, with large slaps of chocolate and home-made truffles. We were offered sparkling wine and we also had a power shot of pineapple, raspberry and lime - fab!

The bar always looks so inviting but we didn't have the chance to have a drink, as we were meeting friends. Previously, whilst non-resident, we've been to the bar here and, although it's pricey, the cocktails are wonderful and the little plates of wasabi peas, crisps, etc are great.

It's not cheap but I couldn't fault it. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I was sad to leave.

Room Tip: Garden view room. The king-sized bed was huge and comfy and we didn't hear a sound from outside...

A lovely stay at the hotel, but there were a few little things that were not as we expected, but then perhaps our expectations were too high as we have stayed in better 5 star hotels. The complaints were, that the shower temperature, one minute it was hot then too cold, the beds, although very big and luxurious, they seemed to have a dip in the middle, which was a tad uncomfortable and lastly, we booked the Junior Suite, well that was just a large room but with a Suite price tag. The good points were, that the staff were extremely helpful and very friendly and the location was brilliant, 5 mins into square. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Junior suite not very big.

and have been sending emails to the financial manager and booking.com for weeks after my trip.
We were not happy with suite which we were told would be big enough for three persons... It was not. We were told there was no room to upgrade from what was booked , which turned out to be untrue we found out before leaving a day earlier then planned. They have lost a Star the doorman informed us which would count for the staffs total lack of courtesy and happy attitude.
You could tell there was a bad tone about the place considering it was xmas.
We told the staff manager that due to being uncomfortable we would stay for 3 Nights instead of 4 nights, this was said on the first Day so giving them plenty of notice. However at the morning of departure the Bill arrived with 4 Nights accommodation to both a suite room & a Double superior room. we had a meeting with a manager which also involved booking.com on the mobile phone to discuss this extra charge of about 1500 pounds the bill was amended after the talks and paid in full. It was after we left the hotel and arrived home to the uk that an email from the manager to booking.com saying that they had changed their mind and was going to charge my credit card after all with the original amount. That is surly Theft in the highest form as they had our card details and could take such a liberty and go against what had been agreed in person.
If I was closer to this hotel which I am sure they knew, they would not have tried to steel from me!!
Booking.com eventually refunded me back the monies the hotel charged my Debit Card in good form, but really the hotel should have never charged it in the first Place!! Be Warned Fellow Travellers wanting a pleasant stay with comfort and happy Cheer ( the Spa by the Way was far from Luxury really sad & lack of Hot Water)

We spent 1 night at the Kempinski hotel duke's palace for easter week end and we are very satisfied with the stay. We booked it quite late and it was a gift, so we didn't mind the 289 euros without breakfast price tag! It was also on offer. The location is perfect in the middle of the city center, minutes from shops, bars and restaurants but at the end of a quiet street. Check in was fast but we could not enter the room before 3 pm - it was mentioned on the booking documents though. The rooms are spacious and the beds super comfy. The bathrooms are also huge, bathtub and big shower. A lot of complimentary toiletries. One of the complaint is the water temperature in the bath tub which isn't hot enough for our taste. The room was also very hot at night but we could open the window so it wasn't a problem. The spa is very well appointed and we enjoyed the pool, sauna and Turkish bath. We decided to have diner in the room and we initially ordered entrecotes but they were out of them so we opted for the filet. My medium was perfect ,served with a lot of French fries - the room service lady actually came back later to give us more! - , my partner's well done steak was medium. We wanted to send it back but we were starving! For 35 euro per dish, you would expect your steak to be cooked the way you like it. Otherwise all members of staff were incredibly friendly and efficient - the receptionist even printed some train timetables for me. Complimentary excellent chocolate eggs in the room! I can only recommend this place and we would go back if in Bruges!
