“HOME FROM HOME MOST CERTAINLY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

Many people talk about "Home from Home" when they stay at hotels but the Boterhuis is really and truly that. Very spacious and modern room with en suite that would put a lot of 5 star hotels to shame. Spotlessly clean in everyway,

Jannie and Annie run this delightful hotel which is so close to the town centre you never need tp think about transportation anywhere - Just walk!!

Don't be mistaken by the exterior of this medieval looking building, on the inside is modern luxury.
Superb Bathroom, Huge shower, and all finished with little special touches.

We stayed in Room 17, Ground floor at the front of the hotel, absolutely no street noise what so ever thanks to the double ,double glazed windows. Flat screen TV, really fast internet, Tea & Coffee making in the room, what more could you want ?

Highly recomended and we will most definitely return.

Room Tip: There are many ground floor room so dont be worried about small winding staircases

The room we were in was nice and big.... very big in fact by European standards... very close to the centre of the town and yet in a nice and quiet setting...
What made our stay even better was the lovely breakfast they served In the morning...

Stayed in a family triple room which was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Lovely rooftop views from our windows. Modern and traditional decor combine to give the hotel a pleasant feel. Staff are professional and welcoming. Location is superb, minutes to markt square. Good value for money. Would not hesitate to return here ourselves or recommend to others.

We recently stayed in this hotel for the third time and can say that the quality of the accommodation and the standard of breakfast is just as good as our previous visits. The hotel is located near to the centre of the city in a quiet location so an ideal place to be based. The staff as always are helpful and friendly,.

Location is a short few minutes walk to the Markt Square, it's quiet and breakfast is A+... but the cleanliness of our room, unfortunately, was another issue. There were dozens of dead mosquitoes all over the walls, ceiling and air unit, obviously killed by previous tenants over some days. I asked for an inspection to see if it met their standard of care, only to be told "are you asking about the mosquitoes!" I had to express my disgust at having smeared blood, gore and pieces of flies all over the place. They agreed to clean it up but imo, this is something that should not have happened, and there should be screens on the windows. We slept in what turned out to be a very stuffy room, unless you wanted to spend the night killing mosquitoes, which we did our first night... This was during the 1st week of Sept.

Room Tip: check room for mosquitoes on arriving and if any, look for window screens. If none, ask for another...

We had reserved a room for 3 nights but unfortunately we had 2 punctures on a stretch of road near Dinant and had to delay our arrival. We telephoned the hotel to let them know. Their only response was 'you will have to pay' . Yes we knew and appreciated that!.

On arrival we received an unfriendly welcome from the older lady owner and was also told that she had given away our parking space which we had reserved months previously. However we knew from a previous visit to the Navarra Hotel opposite which by the way is excellent, that the underground car park is excellent - spacious and well lit and turned out to be cheaper than the hotel charges. Though she gave us a car park entry ticket so we ended up paying the hotel rate.

Our room and bathroom were huge and immaculately clean but so dark. Brown curtains, brown duvets, brown walls and really not a room to look forward to staying in. The roll top bath and double washbasins were lovely but no toilet roll holder or towel rails. Very strange! Tea/coffee facilities but no safe.

Fire alarm went off after midnight. No explanation or apology until our departure , after we had stood outside in our night wear. Mother and daughter didn't acknowledge you unless you said hello first.

Breakfast was perfect. Everything you would want. Though no 'good morning' or shown to a table. We sat in the cellar which was lovely. The man serving was very friendly.

We received an explanation and apology about the alarm on our departure.

We would not return here and felt aggrieved that we had chosen this hotel when there are hundreds of other hotels. The owners need to go to the Park Restaurant for lessons on customer care.

Room 9 is above the breakfast room so noisy from 6.45am. At the back so no traffic noise. Not ideal for elderly as you have to climb a spiral staircase. Hotel only short walk from the main square.

I stayed at the Boterhuis Hotel for four nights in June 2013 and I have to say that it felt very much like a home away from home.

It is a family run hotel ran by Annie and daughter, Jani. Both were most welcoming on arrival and throughout my stay. They were very informative, helpful and kind. When I asked about the bus services, Jani very kindly printed out the bus information for me.

On one particular morning, I had an early start so i had to miss breakfast, however the staff had prepared a mini lunch bag for me. Very considerate and kind of them.

I LOVED my room. The whole building I felt had a sense of character. My bedroom was clean with a nice modern bathroom and the bedroom had a fabulous and slightly rustic but modern feel about it. Its one of those places you have to visit.

The hotel is only a 2 minutes walk to the main Market Square. There are loads of restaurants/bars nearby. There was a Thai Festival when I first arrived and the place was buzzing.

I am going to always stay at the Boterhuis Hotel and I feel as though I've made new friends. I highly recommend this lovely place.

Room Tip: For those of you who are unable to do stairs, they have a lovely room on the ground floor with a wal...
