“Watch Out For The Attitude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

Let me first make it clear that we did not stay in this hotel. However, we did enter the hotel on the day we were leaving a nearby rental property. We are an older couple, and it was raining. I asked the woman at the desk if she would call a taxi for us, since the owners of our apartment were away and we did not know how to call a taxi on our own. She refused. She said that she would not provide any service at all for someone who had not stayed in her hotel (she appeared to be the owner). However, this attitude seemed to extend to those who had stayed there was well. Before approaching her, we observed her dealing with a couple who was checking out. They asked if they could leave their two suitcases in the reception area while they went to pick up their rented car from the garage. She refused, saying that they must take their suitcases with them. So, as I said above, watch out for the attitude. We went across the street to the Hotel Navarra and asked them to call a taxi for us, even though we had not stayed there. They were most gracious, called the taxi, and suggested that we bring our suitcases in out of the rain while we waited. If we were looking for a hotel in Brugge, we would strongly consider Hotel Navarre, and we would NEVER consider Hotel Boterhuis.

Stayed for two nights visiting Bruges. The location is very good, a short walk to the Markt. Easy parking not far from the hotel. The hotel is decorated in colours reminding me of paintings by the flemish masters, very beautiful. Breakfast is served in a lovely room and if the weather is good you can eat out in the courtyard.

Great stay here for one night with terrific accomodations for a family on the top floor (two separate spaces one with a queen bed and one around the corner with two singles). Bathroom had been updated nicely and staff was reasonably helpful. Breakfast was a little confusing but decent. Very close to center square (two blocks). Bring your bug spray, no screens and lots of mosquitoes at night.

Very friendly, family run hotel. Very clean and refurbished nicely. Located just far away enough from the main square to be quiet at night. Close enough to be a five minute walk to it.

Very keen to help organise a surprise bottle of champagne in our hotel room for our anniversary.

Recommended.

The section of the hotel we were in had been modernised. Very steep small stairs. The room was very nicely set out, modern, and well equipped. Very clean and WiFi worked straight away. The downside was the fact that there was a family in the next room with children, possibly with "clogs" on, running laps around the bedroom. On wooden floors the noise was unbelievable, and we had to ask them to keep the noise down (felt awful but we needed to sleep after a long drive). Coffee making facilities in the room, but when I went down and asked for a further 2 sachets of coffee (although she did give them to me) I was informed "two people, 2 sachets".

The breakfast was excellent. The best one we had had in all the 2 weeks away. Lady in breakfast room came and asked if we wanted eggs and how we wanted them. Had scrambled and they were great, so with the toast and the rest of the buffet table made for an excellent start for the day of our journey back to the Ferry.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 22, up the steep spiral stairs. This was the room with the adjoining door. Woode...

If your looking for somewhere cheap to stay and your not bothered about the decor well this is fine. The old lady in reception is miserable but you don't really see her. The steps going up to the rooms are steep and windy be careful. Air conditioning didn't work so opened windows got attached by Mosquitos. Overall average, location not bad.

I've now stayed here twice, once in winter and once (just now) in summer. A delightful place. It's in a great location - just a couple of minutes from the central squares, with nice restaurants and cafes close by. The staff are friendly, straightforward and helpful, the breakfasts are leisurely and generous, the rooms clean, warm, quiet, spacious. There's free Wifi, great showers and the bells from the various towers on Sunday morning are icing on the cake. If the tourist crocodiles are too much, it is a retreat; if a busy city is what you need, it's on the doorstep.

I'd recommend it to anyone - although I guess the stairs in the snug, front part of the cluster of buildings might present a problem to people with mobility issues.

Bruges is a wonder: Boterhuis matches it.

Room Tip: Room 1 has a nice view.
