We have just returned from our seven week holiday in Europe - after all, it was our 35th year anniversary. Bruges was the highlight of our trip and what made it even more special was the outstanding hospitality and service provided by Manu and his charming partner Maka.
Of course, like everyone else, I had done my research on Tripadvisor before going to Bruges. With nothing but Excellent from every comment, I looked at the Maison Le Dragon website, and that was it - we had to go there.
I have to say that "Maison Le Dragon" exceeded all my expectations. From the first moment we were greeted, we were treated like royalty. We had parked our car temporarily just outside to unload our luggage, then I was directed to a large secure private undercover parking area where I could leave my car for the next 4 days.
Our luggage was brought up the lift, while we walked up to our suite on the first floor. Our suite, called the Silver Silk, was exquisite. We had a small entrance, a living room with a fireplace, a large bathroom, separate toilet, large bedroom with canopied bed, and our own private deck. The rooms downstairs were even better, especially the one with hand painted walls that has survived from the Rococo period. The building itself was built in the15th century.
Emmanuel (Manu) greeted us with a beautiful box of Belgian chocolates. He gave us a tour of the premises, and we were told we were free to roam around, even out into the garden if we wished, and to treat the place as if it was our own. We were made to feel very comfortable.
Manu was extremely helpful with restaurant suggestions and with the minimum of fuss, we had our restaurants booked for the next couple of nights. All his suggestions were great places with delicious food.
Breakfast was served in the front room. Freshly squeezed orange juice, followed by a large plate of freshly prepared exotic fruit, warm croissants, a variety of freshly home baked breads, eggs cooked to order. Nothing was too much trouble.
There was an automatic coffee machine that we could help ourselves to all day if we wished.
There is also a massive video library to choose from if you wish to play in your room.
After two days in Bruges, I borrowed the movie called "In Bruges" which I had not seen before and watched it in our room - it was wonderful to see the places that I had been to but what a gruesome movie! I did enjoy it though.
I cannot recommend this "Maison de Charme" highly enough. Manu and Maka go out of their way to make sure that your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible without intruding onto your privacy.
