We needed 5 visits to beloved Bruges to finally find our perfect place to stay. We stayed in some fancy 4-star hotels in Bruges but none of them could ever compare to this B&B. Words can not describe the atmosphere of this beautiful B&B. Entering the house you are overwhelmed by its beauty. Although you feel like stepping back in time there is also a wonderful contemporary feel to it. And there is Caroline to greet you and you instantly feel warm and welcome. You enter the garden which backs onto one of the most beautiful canals in Bruges and you are asking yourselve how you would ever manage to leave this place!

Last week my wife and I returned from a 2-week trip to Belgium and The Netherlands during which time we stayed 4 nights at Cote Canal/Huyze Hertsberger in Bruges. The posts on this message board were critical in our decision to stay there. We could not have been more pleased. What’s not to like? An enchanting city, an historic B&B on a canal, and best of all Caroline who went well beyond our expectations to make our stay the very best.

If you try to imagine the kind of person who would make the ideal proprietor of a B&B, you would imagine someone like Caroline. She has thought of all the details to make staying here memorable. She grew up in Bruges; so she knows it well and likes to point out things to see and do. She and Henk combined their talents to make breakfast a delight as well. We especially liked the bread, muesli, and cheese.

We stayed in the Clair de Lune suite which is a large upstairs room in this building that was built between 1690 and 1700. It has been in Caroline’s family for generations. Although she had planned for years to open a B&B in France, circumstances led her back to Bruges and the home that had been her aunt’s. She worked on the home 7 years before opening it as a B&B 3 years ago.

The setting is along a quiet canal. It was cool while we were there, but in warmer weather it would be wonderful to sit in the garden looking out on the canal. As a sidelight, the outside of Caroline’s own quarters and her dog appear briefly in the movie In Bruges.

We are delighted to recommend Cote Canal and Caroline to all who are interested in a marvelous B&B in the very romantic setting of Bruges.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay and can only agree with all the previous comments. The location is ideally located in the centre and the house and gardens are charming and spotlessly clean. If you are thinking of staying in Brugge this is the place to stay - after looking at the hotels this B & B is by far the more superior. The inside of the house is beautifully furnished and you will be made most welcome. I cannot fault our stay and look forward to return one day. We stayed in the loft on the top floor pictues of which can be found by emailing owner the direct.

We have just returned from our first visit to the beautiful city of Bruges. We feel so privileged to have stayed at this wonderful guest house for the last three nights. The owner Caroline is so warm and welcoming and made our stay very special. The website really does not prepare you for what a fabulous place this is. Our room was huge and full of little details that tell you the owners really care about the welfare of their guests. Although the house is right in the centre of Bruges, you would not know it and there is an air of tranquility throughout. We were blessed with really good weather during our stay and it was a real pleasure to be able to eat breakfast al fresco sat by the side of the canal each morning. The garden was also a lovely oasis to retreat to after a day of sightseeing. We would love to return again one day and just hope that the excellent reviews that Caroline deservedly attracts on this site will not mean that we can't get in!!
