how do I love thee? Let me count the ways!
Firstly, in all of our travels throughout the world, Bruge is by far the most beautiful man-made place on this planet. It is absolutely cute and quaint and charming whilst being breathtakingly beautiful and awe inspiring. Its architecture and lay-out are so incredibly romantic.
And oh Cote Canal...what an incredibly lovely B&B. In the many travels we have done, this trip was the first one during which we stayed at B&Bs and Cote Canal was the second one. Truly wonderful. From the location, to the hostess, to the building, to the room and to the food, we could not have asked for better.
The location is fantastic. It is not in the middle of all the tourists but close enough to the main square and the attractions and is very quiet at night.
The building is so beautiful, especially when viewed from the other side of the canal. The common rooms, especially the breakfast room, are so quant and charming and romantic. And the room was spacious, with high ceilings and pretty furnishings. The bed was exceptionally comfortable.
The hostess was incredibly charming and accessible whilst being completely non-intrusive. She prepared fantastic breakfasts, had perfect dining and activity recommendations and was ready to help in any way she could. She clearly runs this business with love and it shows. Also EVERYONE around town, including the taxi driver who we randomly flagged down at the train station, knew who she was and had nothing but amazing things to say--they were all right!
And we cannot forget Fidel. Fidel is the resident dog and Bruge's resident movie star. He is a gorgeous golden lab. Important to note for those who may be allergic to dogs, he is not wondering around the place. He seems to remain mostly in the private portion of the B&B (the hostess' private residence) but did come out when we asked if we could see him. He is adorable and lovely and you will soon see, quite famous. He spends his time in the window looking out on the canal posing for pictures...adorable.
As noted above, we don't usually stay in B&Bs, preferring hotels, but this was absolutely the perfect choice, and especially in a place like Bruge. Bruge is a very romantic and charming place and the feel of this very romantic and charming B&B fit perfectly. It looks like a few name brand hotels have found their way into Bruge and they just seem out of place. After a walk along the canals and through the charming narrow streets, it's nice to retire into a charming and romantic estate.
Please, please, please go to Bruge and most definitely chose Cote Canal. Thanks for an amazing time Caroline. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to come back!
