Good value for the price. Hotel was little bit dirty and the room smelt. But it is near the new square where the morning market takes place, and the hotel is also very quiet at night. We booked by booking.com without breakfast, but the hotel offers it for an additional fee.

This is a basic hotel situated very close to the centre of the old town. The staff are very friendly and obviously trying hard to run a business well. However, they are really up against it. The building is old which means that if you have people staying in the room above you, and you're a light sleeper, you won't get a wink of sleep as the nice of the creaking floor beds will keep you awake all night. Every single sound reverberates down to the room below. We were staying in room 16 and on more than one occasion i was worried that the people above us were going to fall through the floor any minute. There is no air-con which means opening the window for even more noise. The window was an issue for us, as it was basically the size of a door, but the guard rail b
arely came up to our kneecaps. This was a big problem as we have young children, so had to put a heavy chair in front of the window to protect them. had to have the window open as its as very warm in the room. No tea/coffee making facilities or mini-fridge. Breakfast was adequate, but get there early as it ran out while we were eating. Make sure you check in before 6 p.m. as reception is closed after that. An envelope is left for you on the reception desk and an email sent to you with instructions. However, with no key to get in, the rest is irrelevant. We actually had to let in a French couple who had arrived late and had no way of getting in. We also had to find their key for them and let them know about the quirky way the hotel is run. Probably wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: Honestly couldn't say. Very small hotel. Only about 20 rooms. Suspet noise is an issue in all of...

Not cheap nor cheerful. We stayed for 3 nights in high season. On arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful. Free parking nearby. Basic amenities provided and the breakfast was standard European style. We were on ground floor so couldnt leave windows open on a night and lotsof noise outside on the 'quiet' street mainly due to staffs children who were allowed to play football in the hallways and the drums and guitar outside our bedroom window. All in all quite run down and poorly maintained.

It was a beautiful, hot sunny day when I arrived in Bruges and rather than walk to the hotel with cases, I took a taxi from the train station to the Montovani, the cost - 7 Euros - money well spent! Upon arrival, a very warm welcome from Vicky the manager who spoke excellent English and checked me into my room immediately. The price for a 1 night stay over Easter was very reasonable, that's why I booked. My room on the second floor was clean, and for a single person, very spacious - more like a family room, with a double bed, a single, en-suite bathroom, shower, safe and TV with plenty of channels! Breakfast was continental, with cereal, meats, rolls etc. A special mention - the tiger bread rolls were delicious! The hotel was perfect and Vicky was incredibly helpful and accommodating. Upon arrival, she very kindly rang to confirm my place on a Battlefields Tour (Quasimodo - excellent). The hotel is roughly a 10 minute walk from the centre of Bruges and all the sights. As a single female, I felt safe as I walked back to the hotel after dinner, (it is located down a cobbled side street) and surrounding area was quiet. Friendly, personal service and would have no hesitation in staying at the Montovani again.

We booked a room at Hotel Montovani and indicated on our booking that we would be arriving late. We have done this at many hotels and have been contacted about a pin number to get in (if one was needed). We arrived that Friday night and were locked out. In the end we were forced to find another hotel at a much higher rate in the middle of the night. The next morning when we went to the hotel we were told that a pin number was sent to our email. There was in fact an email which had gone directly to spam. The email asked for us to contact the hotel to confirm that we had received it. The hotel did not bother to follow up when they did not hear from us. They then refused to give us our first nights payment back. They said it was our fault for not checking our spam. The hotel could have tried to call us or could have contacted the company we booked through when they did not hear from us. I was absolutely shocked at the lack of customer service. Even the internet company we booked through emailed the hotel to help us get our money back and Hotel Montovani refused! Had the hotel followed through with their job this entire issue could have been avoided. Unfortunately, we were forced to stay in the hotel the second night as we could not find another hotel in the area that was not booked.
Other issues included:
-Occasional smells of sewage in the rooms and in the breakfast area
-Wifi that does not work
-Poor reception hours (when there was someone working the morning we stayed there was an alarm going off for well over an hour in an adjacent room and the man working did not bother to find out whose it was or if it could be stopped).
The ONLY positive of this hotel is that rooms are a good size for 5 people.

As we got lost and were an hour and a half late, Vicky (the manager) had stayed behind to wait for us. Her and her staff were very pleasant and helped us out a great deal. .... Perfectly located down a quiet back street and a great place to explore Bruges from. Building was old and creeky but that just added to the ambience :-) .... Free parking 2 streets away was very handy.... Totally recommend.

I stayed here for Easter weekend with my brother, on a city break to Bruges. We found the hotel really easily (it's about a 15-20 minute walk from the train station) and were able to check into our room straight away.
The room was nicer than I expected for a 2* hotel, with a lovely shower room and separate WC. We had a twin bed room and the beds were fine for a three night stay. The owner is really friendly and gave us a map on check-in, pointing out where to go for dinner and where some of the cheaper restaurants are.
Breakfast is a bit limited (bread, ham, cheese and some cereal) but surrounded by all the amazing waffle shops and chocolateries of Bruges, we didn't really need a large breakfast anyway!
My only complaints are that the wifi didn't work in the hotel, and as we were on the ground floor, we were woken up early by the creaky floorboards above. I think both of these issues have been raised by other reviewers previously.
The hotel itself is only a 10 minute walk from the main shopping square which we didn't find a problem at all. Overall I think this hotel offers great value in Bruges and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for anyone looking for a budget hotel for a short break.
