“A little gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Just returned from a short break with friends, the hotel was very nice retaining the charm & character of old but with a modern twist. my husband & i had a very large modern room over looking the canal with all the mod cons while our friends had a lovely tradional room with antiques. we felt a couple of things were missing from the rooms, bath robes, tea & coffee making facilaties. Breakfast were lovely but the room a little small, the bar was cosy with a real fire which was most welcome on our return from a cold night out. The staff were friendly & very helpful.
Overall a charming hotel but i am glad we didn't pay full hotel rates as we managed to get a really good deal.

Room Tip: Request a roomover looking the cana ( Front of hotel )

Our stay here was absolutely fabulous! The property is clean and the rooms are decorated in a way that makes you feel like you are staying in an old world manor, not a modern hotel. The bathroom was all new and sparkling clean. Our room had a view of the canal and was quiet and peaceful. The hotel bar is charming and quiet and feels like a den in someone's house, with a fire and cozy couches and chairs to curl up in after a day of touring. I read a review someone made about breakfast being overpriced, but with the location of the hotel being where it is, there is no need to eat breakfast at the hotel; it is literally 3-4 minutes walk from waffle shops and charming bakeries and cafes, all open for breakfast. Parking at the hotel is expensive too, but the hotel is about a 5 minutes walk from one of the big city run parking lots, which is where I parked my car for less than 10 euros a day. The full price of the room was initially high, but we booked it through Travelocity and got a rate that was no more than I was about to pay for a chain hotel. Wonderful hotel, and I plan to return this summer with my parents.

Room Tip: I did see that there is an upcharge for a room with a canal view, but we were booked into one with n...

Hey, it is a very good hotel in a great location with comfortable beds--as are dozens of other hotels in and around Bruges. (Good Hotels and places to eat in Bruges are plentiful.)

Unfortunately this hotel no longer appeals to me as one of the "best small hotels of the world" as that category usually represents consistency in over achieving customer enjoyment in all categories.

We had a hint that the service levels had changed since our last visit from the moment we arrived. Our first visit over a year ago, greeted with warm welcome and swept us off our feet, even parked our car for us around the back labyrinth of the hotel. Well worth the added fee.
This visit, cold reception greeting, and instructions on how to go park my car myself before even checking in!
We stayed the weekend and when we were going to leave, we carried our luggage (and shopping bags of Bruges finest) and took everything to our car. We did this one hour ahead of checkout time. My fiancé quickly returned to the room to check to see if we had left anything behind and the housekeeping was already in the room and was startled by my finance's quick return. She said she came back just to make sure we had not forgotten any belongings to which the housekeeper snapped "THERE's NOTHING HERE"

I really don't care if a room costs £70 or £570 for a night . You treat any customer like that on check in and check out, then customer's next time in Bruges is spent elsewhere.

Not sure what has changed over the last few years but De Tuilerieen just seems to have lost what used to be a total focus on the customer.

Room Tip: As stated by other review, better to have a room facing the parking lot if you prefer a quiet night...

I agree with the review below saying how overpriced the hotel was. We didn't pay hotel prices as my boyfriend works in the travel industry and was able to negotiate trade rates.

The hotel itself is beautiful and peaceful, but there were some things about it that annoyed me:

1- breakfast was expensive at €25 euro per person per day. It was just a continental breakfast with some meats and cheeses, and there was no way you would feel you had your monies worth. Also, for that price I would have expected eggs to be included, but to get scrambled, boiled or fried eggs or an omelette, would cost you an additional €2.50.

2-the spa cost €10 per person per day, but at the weekend its €10 for Saturday and Sunday, which they don't initially make clear to you. The spa is much smaller than it looks in pictures with the turkish spa (ie a steam room) being big enough for 4, a small sauna and small swimming pool. The sauna wasn't even on during our stay so we just had use of the steam room and pool. Obviously the cost is to keep as many people out as possible, but I wouldn't say it was worth the price.

3- the tv is pretty useless unless you pay for everything you want to watch. For the price you're paying I can't understand why they don't provide a better selection of channels.

4- I don't know if this is normal in the hotel world, but our double bed was actually two single beds joined together. This was fine but once we noticed it, I couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed by it. I would have expected an actual decent double bed with this being a 4* hotel.

However, there were some good points to the hotel:

1- the staff at reception and breakfast were very helpful. We were taken through everything when we arrived and shown where everything was.

2- there is free wireless throughout the hotel

3- the housemaids were excellent, and our rooms were cleaned within half an hour of putting up the 'Please clean our rooms' sign.

4- we were on the top floor at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park. It was extremely peaceful and quite and we weren't disturbed by other guests coming and going.

Overall, would come again, but don't think I would pay for the breakfast for each morning of my stay and may give the spa a miss.

Very charming hotel and set up. Got a room with canal view on the second floor with a 25 euro surcharge, which proved to be a complete flop as very noisy (the hotel management surely knows that !!! And they still try to sell up).

Surcharge of 10 euro per person for the tiny pool is actually a joke and can only be understood as trying to keep customers away as it is really small.

Breakfast at 25 euro per person was expensive and then did not even include proper coffee nor sparkling water nor prosecco, which was all charged separately.

Beds were very good, location great and house is charming but overall this was more like a good and charming and dated b&b with nyc 5 star hotel prices, which quite honestly is just not justified and almost a rip off (i know if was easter weekend but still)

Room Tip: Don't take canal view as too noisy even when management tries to upsell

Booked this hotel following excellent reviews on trip advisor and true to form we were not let down. Beautiful spacious room with bath, shower and two wash hand basins. Very comfortable beds. After lots of walking it was lovely to come back to the pool, sauna and steam room in the evenings. Breakfast was excellent and there was even a chocolate fountain. Great location close to all attractions, restaurants etc.

Room Tip: Room 232 is great for 2 adults and there's a pullout bed also if needed.

We booked our flights and hotel through Voyage Prive. We had a Junior Suite in this very central hotel, near to the canal and a 5 minute walk to the main square. The room was enormous. There is the main hotel which is styled very traditionally with 'antique' furniture, traditionally styled with draped curtains at the long windows and there is the modern extension which is very modern, still large rooms and very modern bathrooms. Our room was in the main part of the hotel. The bathroom was probably due for a bit of an update (there was a broken tile in the bathroom, and a small crack in one of the wash basins and the shower cubicle was on the smallish side) but there wasn't anything else wrong. The bed was enormous. The staff were extremely helpful and the breakfasts were fantastic! There was a fabulous choice: cereals, cooked breakfast, continental (meats, shrimps, cheeses), fresh berries, crepes, numerous breads etc etc..The bar had a lovely fire and cosy chairs. There was a small pool area but we didn't use it.The only down side was there weren't any tea and coffee making facilities in the room and neither were there any dressing gowns. However, we could probably have got one from reception as they were giving them out for use in the pool area. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We were in Room 136 which looked on to the back of the hotel - car park and houses, which wasn't...
