“Great for Families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

The family room was lovely and my son loved the staircase going up to where his bed was. The staff was very eager to help us with anything and left us feeling well looked after. We are staying again when we go to enjoy the Christmas market.

I spent one night here at the beginning of December. The hotel Christmas decorations were stunning, especially at night - white lights covered the windows, each of which was crowned with a large wreath. Inside, the elegant common areas were also vey tastefully and beautifully decorated for Christmas. It really was magical - especially when the fireplaces were lit in the evening. This is a lovely hotel.

I stayed in the single room, over the courtyard. Unlike most single rooms, it had a roomy bathroom with a shower and a big bath. It was all spotlessly clean and had everything I needed - a powerful hairdryer, tissues, the usual complimentary shampoo etc., a safe, a stocked mini-bar, an extra pillow, a fully functioning remote controlled air-conditioning/heater unit and a remote controlled colour TV. The room was very quiet at night and I had a great night's sleep.

In the morning, I enjoyed a lavish breakfast, which was included in the price of the room. There really was everything you could want - cold meats, cereals, pastries, a cooked breakfast, prunes, toast, real freshly squeezed orange juice...the list goes on and on. It certainly sets you up for the day. They serve great coffee too!

The staff are very charming and helpful. They are happy to show you places of interest on the map (the hotel supplies you with one) and you are also given a discount card for local attractions.

If I was going to nit-pick, there was a slight smell of drains downstairs in the evening. I noticed an air-freshener at reception, so I think they are aware of the problem and, having been to Venice, I know that canals often produce these smells. In fact, I noticed a similar smell in other parts of the city, so I don't think the problem lay with the hotel. The smell was not noticable on the upper floors and, in a hotel as enchanting as the Jan Brito, I can certainly overlook it.

For the money, I really don't think you could do better. If I return to Bruges, I shall definitely want to stay here again.

We stayed here while visiting the christmas markets at the end of November. The location was perfect - about 5 mins walk the the main square & shopping area. It's on a quiet & dark street but we didn't feel worried about safety at any time. We were pleasantly surprised how friendly & generally just really nice everyone we met from bruges were. Really lovely place.
The staff were all friendly & the room perfectly fine for our needs, not very big but very comfortable. The breakfast was great, plenty of choice & a very efficient lady topping up coffees every couple of minutes. I'll definitely book this place again & would cheerfully recommend it to family & friends anytime. Only thing I wasn't expecting was a bill for 'city tax' on checkout. Probably my lack of research & it was only about 10 euros but it caused a bit of a fluster as that was our taxi money! No great issue but do save some cash for this when you leave

We spent just one night at Jan Brito but our stay was exceptional for a few reasons. First of all, the hotel is beautiful. The common areas are simply elegant. Our reasonably priced Maid's Quarters room was small but charming - with exposed wooden beams, and a skylight that opened. The included breakfast was great. Second, Jan Brito is well positioned to walk everywhere you'd want to go in Bruges - including to the Half Moon Brewery! Third and possibly most important the Jan Brito has "Laurie" at reception. At a rest stop on our way to Bruges our rental car was broken into; the window smashed, and our passports, money, and belongings stolen. When we arrived at Jan Brito, Laurie checked us in, directed us to secure parking, and then made it her mission to help us through our mishap. She made bunches of phone calls, faxes, copies - all with a caring attitude and lovely smile. Without Laurie's help, we would have struggled with calling folks and trying to speak our broken French to them to explain our situation. We do want to go back to Bruges as it was such a nifty, medieval city and we only had one night and were somewhat distracted. When we go back, there are several hotels to choose from, many right on the canal. We will stay at Jan Brito because it is so nice and because of Laurie. She was wonderful... If you are reading this Laurie - thanks again!

Room Tip: The Maid's Quarters rooms are small but very good value, and charming.

Four of us spent 3 nights at the Hotel Jan Brito recently and were thoroughly surprised with this accommodation. We booked 2 rooms in the Maid's Quarters and they were more than comfortable, heating, quite a good size bathroom, table and chairs for sitting around it. The room wasn't huge by any means but comfortable for couples, it was very clean also. Check in staff were more than helpful and we were also provided with a beautiful full hot breakfast, also the staff in the dining area were second to none. A fantastic little find close to the main shopping area, we will definitely stay at Jan Brito again if we return to Brugge which is a beautiful little village.

Room Tip: We didn't see other rooms but found the "Maid's Quarters" more than comfortable.

We recently stayed here whilst visiting Bruges for a football game. The rooms were very nice, the staff were extremely helpful (especially the blonde receptionist whose name I did not get). It is well located, only 5-10 minutes walk away from most attractions. The breakfast included in the price was very nice, from cold meats and cheeses to a hot breakfast. I would happliy stay here again.

Nice hotel in Bruges. Close to the centre, but still a bit away from the biggest tourist crowds. Nice rooms, pretty good breakfast, and friendly staff. This was our second stay here, and we still recommend it.
