“A good hotel we stayed in the superior...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2010

A good hotel we stayed in the superior plus which is modern in its look and was comfortable. The hotel is in a good location a 5 min walk into the main square. We stayed one night and would have been happy to stay another. I got a good price via trip advisor but I feel the price I paid was ok if the price was higher I may mark a little lower for value. The pros. Staff good room stylish location ok clean hotel parking ok but you have to pay. Tv had orb and BBC 1 which was a sunrise .the not so good the towels and dressing gowns are due for replacing. Swimming pool is a nice gesture but to be honest its to small for us to be bothered with (personal opinion) . No WiFi in the room which surprised me as it was one of the higher priced rooms. Ok overall I would like to say I would recommend this hotel as its better than some I stayed in Brugge and Brugge is a fantastic place but pricey so the advice from the reception I.e don't eat in the main square If you are on a budget was valuable.

We enjoyed a busy visit to Bruges and were pleased to have chosen the Flanders Hotel for our accommodation. It was an excellent base for our short break, convenient to the city's sites and a very comfortable place to return to at night. The staff, rooms and amenities are excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. Breakfasts were first class and served in most pleasant surroundings.
The reception staff were most helpful in suggesting visits and places that would interest usm and they weren't wrong!
Should we return to Bruges we will most certainly book at the Flanders again!

Situated about 20 minutes walk from station, not far but quite difficult dragging cases through cobbled streets.

Good location in quiet street, short walk to main attractions.

Room little dated but quite large & very clean. Large bathroom, but no bath.

Breakfast was buffett style but lots of choice.

All staff very helpful, internet access in lobby was convenient. Bar was nice, half price drinks between 4-6PM, no problems with smoking as mentioned in previous reviews. Pool was out of order during our stay.

Only criticism was thin walls & noise could be heard from other rooms.

... good hotels would focus more on details, there would be no more undecided half-half reviews!

Situated in a tantalizing agony between a 3 and a 4 star hotel, Flanders hasn't convinced us it deserves the full 4 glittery stars.
We chose this hotel in an attempt to escape all the other good ( what is ''good'' though? ) hotels in town with flowery walled, carpeted, bedded and furnished rooms. We found these modern rooms ( superior plus ) and we were instantly sold.
The good location, the private parking facilities, cleanness throughout the hotel, friendliness of the staff get thumbs up.
The big double bed ( no twins placed next to each other ), nice clean sheets, 6 pillows, complimentary bathrobes and slippers ( great quality for the latter ), complimentary coffee and tea in the room, new modern furniture, cleanness of the room, touristic information folder definitely deserve 4*.
Having said that, what happened to the bin in the toilet? A bit awkward not to have one!!
Where were the pen and the feed-back form all hotels should place next to the information folder?
The bathroom looks nice, big and clean, but where is the magnifying mirror, why are the towels thin, worn out and not really white?
And the ''star'' of the bathroom is undoubtely the shower curtain - yikes! You have a big, new, clean tub, a modern powerful shower head, you're enjoying your shower and, all of a sudden, the horrible shower curtain that got wet during this time, gets attracted to your body and slap, it's all over you like a slimy wet octopus hugging you, never wanting to let go! Extremely unpleasant feeling! You're almost shouting at it: ''get off me!!'' when you realize you're being an idiot and you just angrily push it away, over the brim of the tub, happily enjoying the rest of your shower. The catch? Comes at the end when your grin of pleasure of having had a nice shower and having beaten the ''monster'' almost gets drowned in the water that's pooled all over the bathroom floor. You just give up, careful not to slip on the wet tiles, grab a towel and go enjoy the nice room, trying to convince your partner it was really a fight in there and it's not you having had an overdose of Belgian chocolate.
Breakfast? Friendly staff helping, decent choice of food, however not good enough for a 4*. Only uncut apples and oranges as fresh fruit? Sorry, not enough. Decent variety of breads and pastries, freshly squeezed juice, not enough variety for the flakes and muesli, cheeses and cold meats. If more than 8 people present for breakfast, the buffet area becomes very crowded, one has to actually queue to get the food. Get a table by the window - lovely view of the pond with fish and vegetation!
The bar is nice, modern, plenty of choice for a night cap, friendly good service, reasonable prices.
Level of flexibility for reception desk - not that great, although they are friendly enough.
Would we return to this hotel? Probably yes, because it is a good decent hotel and we find an adventurous shower episode better than sleeping in flowery colorful rooms that give you headaches just by having your eyes open. Plus, it doesn't take much to turn this into a beautiful, good quality, well priced, enjoyable full 4* hotel.

Just returned from a visit to the Flanders hotel. We wanted somewhere close to the centre, with car parking & this was an excellent choice. Our room was clean and comfortable, we had a small balcony overlooking the rooftops of Bruges. There are no room safes, but you can use the ones in reception free of charge and you keep your own key with you for the duration of your stay. Breakfast was served in a lovely sunny breakfast room overlooking the fishpond - the quality and choice of food was plentiful, and you could have as much or as little as you liked. We did not use the pool, which was empty every time I sneaked a look inside! The location was perfect for us - close to the centre, but not too close to be noisy. The staff were, without exception, willing to help. We decided to take a day trip to Brussels and the receptionist suggested we stop off at Ghent en route; she even printed directions for us! Fantastic! We were not troubled with noise or smoke at all during our stay - even the bar area where smoking is permitted was pleasant. There is happy hour from 4pm-6pm each night. Worth a quick visit before going out to dinner. We would definitely stay here again, highly recommended!

Short enjoyable walks from hotel to town center. Our room was on the street side. No problem sleeping with windows open or closed, but definitely more quite with windows closed. Beds were comfortable and roomy. Very good breakfast -- there was plenty to choose from the buffet. Front desk (both morning and evening) was helpful -- they gave good directions to where we wanted to visit and also suggested an enjoyable restaurant for dinner.

It's the staff here who make the difference - without exception they were friendly and couldn't do enough for us.

The rooms themselves are very clean, and although other reviews have suggested a smell of smoke around the hotel, including the bedsheets, we didn’t get a whiff of it, even in the bar. Only slight complaint here was that the walls aren’t especially thick, so if someone was talking loudly in the next room you could hear them. However this was more than made up for by this being the only continental hotel which gave us a proper double duvet for a double bed instead of two singles.

The breakfast was very good and plentiful, and the dining room clean and although not particularly roomy it never felt cramped.

The best part was the location – very close to the city center (about 5 mins walk to the Belfort) but being effectively in the second circle of the city, across the first canal, you’re removed from any real noise. We didn’t hear a thing and didn’t have any problems with road noise or the like.

It may be helpful to know that once you check in the hotel will give you a map showing the hotel and interesting tourist sights (including windmills which you can enter, something the guidebooks totally ignored but which was one of the best things we saw) and a discount card which gets you a Euro off tickets to most things around the city.

There is also an internet computer in the lobby which you can use for free, and there is a small but welcome swimming pool which was barely used whilst we were there.

Overall it’s a cracking hotel, and if we return to Bruges we will definitely stay here again. The staff do an excellent job.
