We didn't know what to expect after having read previous guests' reviews so were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel was clean with friendly staff and pleasant dining room and lounge areas. The pool was great - I swam every morning and some evenings as well. Within easy reach of the centre of Bruges, the railway station and market. Would stay there again and would recommend.

We were disappointed in our stay at the Karos and would not recommend it. Our room was tired and pokey, the service was poor and the breakfast not good at all. Having said that we enjoyed our trip to Bruges which is a beautiful city with lots of nice places to eat and drink. Wonderful beer!

We were pleasantly surprised. The reviews indicate some Transyvanian horror, but we had a delightful stay at Hotel Karos.
Our ensuite room was in the relatively modern extension to the rear of the building and very quiet, over looking the rear mews. The room certainly was well heated (turn the temperature down on the rads), and the breakfast was substantial and varied. Do not be put off by the dual carriageway road at the front (in the UK this indicates 24-hour trucks and cars), the traffic is very light. Great position for the centre of Bruges and within sight of the large t'Zand Saturday market (get your lunch from the big roast chicken van). Take your swimming trunks (we regretted not doing so) as the pool appears clean and tidy and not over populated. Reception staff very pleasant at all hours. Train station 5 mins (6 euros) by taxi. Well done, Hotel Karos.

As you enter the main door, there are mannequins, creepy looking dolls and stuffed animals everywhere. The staff at the hotel are really nice and helpful, breakfast is adequate and the floorplan is complicated. Rooms are sort of clean, the bed that we slept in was tilted on an angle, pillows were bumpy, not enough lighting in the room, the paint on the bathroom wall was peeling and the fixture was old and leaking. There is a pool in the hotel too. The hotel is quite central (a 10 minute walk into town) though.

Anyway, I seriously do think that this hotel needs a facelift (new beds & pillows, sheets & duvets, new carpeting, a new coat of paint, better lighting in the room and please enforced a no-smoking policy in the rooms). And the doll picture on the wall in all the rooms & all sort of dolls in the hotel has to go, please! - it is so freaky!
