I may not be considered an official globetrotter or a hotel critic but after traveling to 17 countries (and revisiting some of these countries – one in particular seven times - to cover different regions,) to more than seven islands in the Caribbean and more than 11 states in the US, I think I can take the liberty to at least evaluate a hotel and determine whether it is “more than adequate” and possesses that impressive quality that “wows a guest”.
After spending 3 nights in room number 32 from June 30 – July3, 2013 in room number 32 to celebrate our wedding anniversary, I personally believe Hotel Prisenhof Bruges can compete with a 5 star hotel - AND win!.
Since it will take more than 5 pages to try to describe our marvelous and unforgettable experience in this beautiful and charming family-run hotel and their entire professional, polite, and lovely staff, I recommend first to visit the Hotel’s website where you will find a pretty accurate description of what to expect. I say pretty accurate, because the website falls short of its actual high standards of excellence. Next, read TripAdvisor’s reviews but first focus only on those that do not give a perfect “” review to the Hotel - then read the rest. Later, you can read our summary below BUT always keeping in mind that just like the Hotel’s website, it fails to accurately describe this wonderful hotel and our lovely experience.
Hotel: Superb! A cozy, captivating, elegant and immaculate 24 room family-run hotel where you will feel at home the moment you walk in – with free Wi-Fi that works perfectly!
Location: Excellent! In the center of Bruges in a quiet and peaceful street one block from the main shopping streets. Everything is within a few minutes walking distance - including the train station which is a 15 minutes’ walk.
Staff: Wonderful! They ALL share the same, courteous, pleasant and friendly attitude of the owners, marked by a determined effort to make you forget you are away from home:
Karen - reflects a professional cordial attitude at all times. After she first greeted us with a smile and explained everything in detail, Karen left us speechless when she told us we had been upgraded to a luxury room and personally showed us the hotel and our “perfect 10” room.
Pauline and Celine - display kindness and understanding all the time. The day before we departed, we asked if we could have only a coffee or a cappuccino the next day at 6:30AM before heading to the train station. She said no problem. The next day, the ENTIRE buffet breakfast was ready by 6:30AM!
Peggy - always amiable and attentive to details. She not only exhibits a remarkable enviable patience but her motherly qualities can spoil anyone during breakfast.
Chamber Maids/Cleaning Staff: They ALL do an exceptional job which is reflected in the way the room and the entire premises are always kept: Spotless and immaculately clean!
Owners: Thierry and Katrien, congratulations! Your beautiful hotel not only IS truly an “oasis of tranquility” but you have set the benchmark of fine quality. ALL the staff seems to be motivated only by a passionate commitment to excellent service. Beyond doubt, their extraordinary cordial qualities and devotion to excellence not only should be praised but held up as an example for the rest of us to follow!
Room: Flawless! Number __ faces the back parking lot and it is peaceful, lovely, amazing, comfortable, spacious, impeccably clean…
Breakfast: Outstanding! Buffet is fabulous, delicious, fantastic… you name it, they have it – or will make it!
Bruges: Beautiful! Sometimes referred as “the Venice of the North”, Bruge is a lovely medieval small city filled with pleasant and amiable residents. Next time you to travel to Europe do not forget to include Bruges in you in the itinerary AND to stay in Hotel Prinsenhof. You will not regret it!
Cons: Here you will experience the saddest day of your vacation. And this is the day Karen checks you out of the Hotel, accompanies you to the taxi, and as Karen waves goodbye, you depart this lovely hotel and beautiful city... and immediately begin to wonder: Will there be another opportunity to make this dream come true again!?
