“Must see collection of Flemish paintings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

Once I knew I was going to be in Bruges for a few days I was determined to visit this gallery. I was not disappointed. Fabulous collection of Flemish art and all the better for seeing it in the area where many of the paintings were created. They are beautifully displayed - not too close together and with the right lighting so you can really appreciate them. Amazing to stand in front of these vibrant pictures and realise they were painted getting on for 500 years ago. The information boards explaining how the techniques developed were great and in several languages. I would have liked a bit more detail on some of the paintings to explain the allegory and religious background but that's a quibble and certainly nothing to deter you from visiting this splendid gallery. Highly recommended.

“Great collection of Flemish paintings.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

Home of the Flemish Primitives from the 15th century, this museum includes works of Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Gerard David, Hugo van der Goes, Petrus Christus, and Hieronymous Bosch.

This was really enjoyable to visit. Loved seeing works that you will only see here.

“Flamish "primitive" painters museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

If you like the Flemish "primitive" painters this is the museum to see. "Primitive" for first ones, i.e. the first to paint in a new stye.
Buy a Museum pass (20 € for 3 consecutive days) good for all the city museums and other sights (bellfry, Stadhuis, Gothic hall).

“Fabulous Collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

We did not expect this small museum to have such an outstanding collection of Flemish "primitives", which are anything but primitive. Incredible detail, color, and light in every painting, which also convey a clear impression of the period in which they were painted. Not to be missed.
Go early to miss the crowds.

“High profile artists in a fairly small and manageable collection”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

The grouping was brilliant with a brief description of the various epochs at the start of each room.
The Bosch triptych, which I guess a lot of people go to see, is fairly near the start so it can be quickly found for those on a time limit.
A great selection for those into the Flemish Primitives and religious art.
