“Nice hotel, but best enjoyed with a car”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

This hotel is clean and modern and comes with a comprehensive breaksfast buffet. It is also nice to have a few drinks in the lounge by the fire place of an evening. The rooms are quite plain and simple yet functional enough. Unfortunately the location ius best enjoyed woth a car as it is quite a walk into central Bruges from the hotel - approx 35-40mins each way. The hotel is located very close to a supermarket which is handy for those on a budget and / or self catering. Keep in mind that there is a charge for parking on the hotel grounds, although it is not too much.

Room Tip: Best enjoyed with a car to get around.

The setting: we got married last year and received quite some hotel vouchers, valid in different cities. This one was about to expire, and because we had to use it anyway, we decided to visit this one beer restaurant in Brugge (Den Dyver) and make a weekend out of it. Strangely enough, this business hotel (cause that's what it is) was fully booked. With my wife being pregnant, we couldn't wait 2 more months, so we stayed from Sunday to Monday, taking half a day of off work.

Yes, the place is way out of the centre. That sucks, but at least you have parking space available. Oh, wait, no you don't. Unless you pay 10 euro extra. Dafuq? No way, José! This is ridiculous. You are outside of the centre, you are not IN but even FURTHER away than the industry area. So what's the reason to ask so much money for parking? It feels like they're picking your pockets even before you have entered the hotel.

Service at the reception desk was friendly. Service during breakfast was rather loud and rude, is it a coincidence that the woman was Dutch and not Belgian? Room is not really big. There was a bath, but it's so narrow at the bottom, that you can hardly stand up in it, to take a shower. The washing sink was cracked, the stopper broken. On the floor is laminate, what an ingenious choice for a hotel! We were woken up early in the morning by high heels, and it sounded as if it came from the sides, the ceiling and the floor at the same time. So yeah, walls are paper thin as well. You hear everything. The floor of which I'm talking was pretty dirty and dusty. I accidentally dropped my black T-shirt on the floor, when I picked it up, it was FULL of gray / white dust.

The quality of the beds is abominable, cheap spring mattresses and the cheapest synthetic pillows ever. The kind that doesn't support your head, and stays up all around your head, creating a sort of synthetic cocoon in which you can't breathe unless you sleep on your back. There was a minibar, which was completely empty, so we just unplugged it, because it kept making a lot of noise at night. The only item available was a half litre of mineral water, at 4.5 euro. Stay out of my pockets, damned!

Breakfast buffet was ok, but not really amazing. Ok, there was scrambled eggs, sausages (not really good ones) and bacon, but no smoked fish, no cheese selection, no rolls, things you would consider basic for a 4 star breakfast buffet. In the dining room, the only thing we saw during breakfast was Dutch couples, probably all staying with the same kind of voucher, as our voucher was Dutch as well. I have a suspicion that this hotel survives on voucher, at least during the weekend.

In all, this just doesn't feel like a 4 star hotel to me at all. Our stay was ok, because it was for free, but I would NEVER pay to stay in this hotel.

My sister and I ended up booking here since every other place in Bruges was booked for the last summer of the weekend in early September. Although it was a walk in to town, it was not so bad--takes about 25 minutes at a decent pace. The walk was nice during the day, although a little dimly lit at night and chilly come September.

A taxi takes approx. 15 euro from the train station, and you will not want to walk the 3km or so, so plan to spend it if you have luggage.

The rooms are clean and fresh, more so than other places we stayed up on our trip to Europe. Unfortunately since we checked in early, the cleaners may not have been completely done with our room. When we went to bed at 1245AM we found that our sheets had stains (looked like mold) on them so we called the front desk. Since the hotel was fully booked, it took them a while (30 minutes) to round some new ones up, but when they did they were clean and crisp.

Walls may be a little thin, but our neighbours were all quiet early on so it was not a problem.

The service is extremely friendly and try their best to help out in any way that they can. We arrived way earlier than check-in (130PM) and they found us a room immediately, which was very nice. It allowed us to spend the afternoon in town and not worry about our luggage.

Overall the experience was good and we would recommend the hotel to anyone who is not afraid of a short walk to and from bed. After all, you are there to explore Bruges, not hang out in your hotel room, right?

This was our second visit to this hotel and it is excellent. It is however a substantial walk away from the city centre. There is a lovely park which backs on to the hotel and is ideal for a pleasant stroll. This hotel has now dropped its parking charges and is now free topark your car. We didn't have an evening meal in the hotel as it seemed exspensive but we did enjoy the breakfast although the cooked options could have done to be warmer

Room Tip: Great if you don't mind walking

This is not the hotel you want to choose if you expect simple extras, such as water, kettle, tea, etc. The mini fridge was completely empty too, so no option to pay for extras either. The hotel food is also significantly more expensive than local options (even the tourist options). The hairdryer was broken, and bins had not been emptied properly. On the other hand, staff at the front desk are very friendly and helpful.

Booked the hotel for a nights stay via Expedia at a good rate for two adults and one child.

We booked a twin room with an extra bed for a child. Rang as requested the night before arrival to confirm the extra bed. Was told that the bed was already in the room and it was set up the day before our stay.

Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly reception staff. We were told there would be approximately a ten minute delay as the room was not ready despite being told it was set up the day before? We were asked to wait in the bar and given three complimentary drink vouchers. However the barman was missing and turned up about ten minutes later.

The downstairs bar area and reception was nicely decorated and very modern with free wifi.

Our room was on the first floor. The corridors aren't as modern as the down stairs but the room was modern.

Our room was an ok size but maybe a bit on the small side. One of the lamp shades was stained, hair dryer didnt work and the air conditioning kept making weird noises throughout the night. The bed was weird. It had a built in mattress and what I can only describe as a crash mat with a sheet round it on top. This was very uncomfortable as it kept moving in the night so you ended up on the base of the bed, which looks not very clean.

There was a young Spanish coach party in that night who were very noisy opening and closing doors throughout the night.

The car park is charged at 9 euros for 24 hours which I find a bit cheeky, especially as there is free parking outside the car park.

We were offered breakfast at "about 40 euros" but declined as we paid 65 for the room so seemed a bit disproportionate.

The hotel rates themselves at 4 star which is fair enough for the bar and restaurant area, but not for the exterior. The rooms I would say are more 3 star.

I've stayed in worse hotels, and they only need to improve on a few things to make it an enjoyable stay.

My wife and I spent a night while cycling across Belgium. Nice hotel, but there has to be better, closer choices if you want to see historic Brugge.
