My spouse and I spent 2 nights at this small hotel overlooking the canal. We are used staying at a Small Luxury Hotel if possible but this one we particularly liked. It oozes old charm. Our room was meticulously clean and well decorated with antique furniture, fantastic fabrics, fireplace and very comfy beds. Bathroom wasn't very big but had all the facilities and was very quaint. We had room 76 in the canal house. Peeped in the room next door, while maid was cleaning, and that bathroom was huge. Room was also differently decorated and furnished. Lovely colours. Very pleased with our choice of hotel. Also the staff was excellent and very helpful. Looking forward going back.

"Die Swaene" what to say- Our stay was amazing! The beautiful room, the fabulous food, the gorgeous village with the picturesque bridges and canals!
Lieselot and Lieven were wonderful. Their intimate care for us truly made our trip. All the little touches and gestures made our stay an experience not soon to be forgotten. We will go back, no doubt about that.

My wife & I spent an enjoyable 3 days over a weekend staying in a deluxe canal view room in the original hotel. The room and bathroom was a reasonable size and nicely furnished but lacked a chest of drawers for clothes that you do not wish to hang. My only real complaint is that they do not have double beds and, although they push them together and cover them with a double bedspread, they still make them up as 2 singles underneath the bedspread - very odd! The room was meticulously cleaned each day.

The inclusive buffet breakfast is superb with eggs freshly cooked to order if you want them. All staff that we encountered, from front desk to waitresses & maids, were friendly, approachable and efficient.

One thing to be wary about, especially if you are a light sleeper, is the proximity to the fish market. We only encountered this on the last morning of our stay as it is closed Sunday & Monday but I doubt if I would book 3 nights when the market is open, although perhaps rooms not on the front may be quieter. Otherwise the hotel is very well located so that shoppingand many places of interest are within easy walking distance.

We ate once in the restaurant in the new Pergola building where we felt that the food was only average, although the service was first class. They seem to be aiming for a 'fine dining' experience but are not quite making it and the menu could do with reviewing as some of the dishes just don't work. We ate there with some friends who had dined in the previous restaurant when it was in the main building and they felt the Pergola restaurant was disappointing in comparison.

Notwithstanding the above, all in all we had a very enjoyable & relaxing stay and will definitely use Die Swaene again when next in Bruges.

If you're ever lucky enough to go to Brugge, you must stay at The Swan, one of the most charming hotels I've ever experienced. The hotel is beautifully appointed (old world charm without looking run-down), the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, the location is great, and the rooms are lovely and big. Breakfast was outstanding and served in a lovely garden motif room. Pay a little more and get a room with a view of the canal that separates the two wings of the hotel. I can't wait to go back!

Lovely hotel split into two parts either side of the canal. Very central just along the canal from the fish market. Went to Bruges for the Christmas market which made the whole town very busy but the hotel was an oasis of calm and very nicely decorated for the festive season.

Went with friends so had two rooms. Theres had a four poster bed and was very nice. Ours was right in the roof but was very spacious and had all those little touches that my wife loves, nice up market toiletries and a small bowl of fruit.

Only minor grumble was the seperate toilet was a little small and right in the eaves so had a sloping ceiling, but the bathroom had a corner bath.

One other thing was the stairs up to the top floor were very steep although there was a lift which we were encouraged to use by the staff.

Forgot to mention the pool and sauna as we never had a chance to use them but we did have a look.

All in all a fabulous hotel and am just waiting to book for next Christmas.
