We enjoyed everything about our two week tour of Belgium..except for the two nights we slept in this hotel. There is nothing quaint or charming about sleeping in a dirty room. The furnishings, carpet, sheets, and towels were stained and full of holes. The walls and ceilings were scattered with crushed bug corpses (window screen also had large holes). Bruge is a lovely city and after a full day of walking you shouldn't dread going to your hotel. The hotel is in a nice location, the breakfast was adequate and most of the staff pleasant, but a four star rating is very misleading. It's two stars at best.

The Azalea is in a great location on a quiet sidestreet - easy walking distance to the main square. The staff were absolutely wonderful - extremely friendly and helpful with information about the area. The hotel has a cozy salon with an excellent breakfast each morning. The only negative thing was our room was quite sparse - older furniture and a bed that left a lot to be desired. However, we were there to enjoy the town - not the inside of a hotel room - it was a non-issue for our trip. The positive aspects far overcame the negatives - we enjoyed it!

We had a lovely time in Bruge, we went for four days and still came across streets we hadn't seen. We thought Bruge was quite expensive but still enjoyed ourselves.

I was very disappointed with the room we were given at the hotel, we were in room 22, it was small with a very small bathroom and shower that flooded the floor. The first thing we noticed was the dirty and stained carpet and rug, I was tempted to move the rug but feared it was probably hiding something more sinister underneath and I decided I would rather not know. The eiderdown was very grubby and old and when folded back was very stained, we removed this from the bed. The room desperately needed decorating as did the rest of the hotel. (I appreciate this hotel is portrayed as being 'oldy worldly' and this I could accept, but this hotel is run down and the rooms very dated). The carpet on the stairs was also dirty and worn. When the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor we had to use the towels to stop it going everywhere, the towels were soaked through, these were folded up and left for us to use the next day, we couldn't believe this, however when we told reception our towels were soaking wet and had been used on the floor to stop the bathroom flooding they were immediatley replaced. Smoking is allowed in the bar and on the terrace, we did not notice any smell of smoke in any part of the hotel. We found the breakfast room a bit of a squeeze if all the tables were being used. Bacon and eggs only just warm. The hotel is in a good location but so are lots of others. I cannot work out how this hotel has 4 stars.

We caught the trains to and from Brussels Airport to Bruge and this went very smoothly.

Travelled throughout Europe for three months with an approximate $100euro per night budget and this was in the top 3 worst places we stayed. Smelt like smoke (because the drunken owner smokes next to the kid who irons the sheets), looked like a museum, and the rooms were tired and moldy. Nice terrace - but that's about it. Brugges is too nice of a town to stay to ruin in a place like this.

My husband and I stayed at the Azelea hotel for the weekend and I must say, we did expect a little more. The hotel was quaint, with antiques, rugs and old decor.. The room we were given (no. 11) was fairly small, dated (except for a new, but tiny bathroom) and at times smelt of smoke. It defintely did not look like some of the photos shown on the internet! I would say it was more a 3* than a 4*, but as Bruges is such a beautiful place, we hardly spent any time in our room.
The location of the hotel was good.. Close enough to shops, restaurants, the main areas and is situated on a canal. Although we had a canalside room, we could not see the canal through thick trees and after some rainful, be aware - mosquitos come out!
Breakfast was somewhat limited, with just egg and bacon on offer for a hot breakfast, which was only slightly warm..but again, it wasn't awful by any means!
The staff were very helpful and most friendly. The hotel also conveniently has a parking garage next door for 15 euros per night.
In summary, the Azalea hotel is a bit tired, but it is a quaint hotel for a reasonable rate.

We really liked this place despite the obvious flaws. The decor throughout resembled a preserved National Trust site, faux antiques, paintings etc. The location was excellent, just off the main drag so as to be quiet enough to sleep but, near enough to walk easily to all the attractions of this wonderful city. We reserved parking in advance and were very pleased to find a garage held! The night porter was able to recommend an excellent restaurant (Belle Epoque) and served us drinks late into the night! Our room was comfortable but plain and the bathroom disappointing. The shower/bath leaked through the poor sealing of the shower screen and there was very little shelf space. The inadequate hair dryer in the bathroom was first used to clear the mirror! The extra towels were very handy for mopping up! And yet despite the failings this hotel has charm and being offered a discount for cash instead of a card payment was welcome.
