“Ideal for a city break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

NH hotel is situated about 500m from the railway and bus station and is an easy 5-10 minute walk into the centre of Bruges. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and it was no problem when we checked in early after our arrival via the Zeebruges ferry.
The hotel interior is tastefully decorated, quiet and clean. The room we stayed in was spacious, clean and well appointed.
Breakfast is optional and comprised the usual continental selections, plus cooked items for those who prefer an English type breakfast and was worth the extra money.
The hotel was booked through lastminute.com and was the "secret hotel". Well worth the gamble at the price......We would certainly stay there again.

Stayed 3 nights and could have stayed longer. Hotel staff all genuinely very friendly. Room was good. Warm and nicely decorated. Bed comfy. Beer in bar very nice. Hotel shared areas well presented and Road & bus station opposite a bit noisy even with secondary glazing. breakfast had loads of choice and nice quality. Only gripe is bathroom needed a proper clean. Swimming pool closed probably more 3 star than 4. Good central location & easy walk to station. TV in room was antique, but who goes to Bruge to watch a hotel TV! If I return to Bruge I would seriously consider staying again. I liked this Hotel and if it got a little room refurb, 21st century tvs , proper wifi and deep clean it would be exceptional.

I have been to Bruges several times but never used this hotel before. To start, it is only a short walk from the station and easy to find. As soon as I walked in I got a good impression and the staff were very pleasant and helpful especially when our adaptor wouldn't work. The room was a large size with 2 double beds, tea and coffee facilities a safe and hairdryer and a nice bathroom with bath/shower and we had a view over the garden. Only complaint was that the beds were a bit too soft. A plus for me was that the hotel had a free to use gym with running machine, cross trainer, bike etc and it was very clean and well equipped. Breakfast was plentiful with good choices. There was no noise at all during the night - no road noise at all. The hotel was located close to the main centre of Bruges close to plenty of restaurants and there is also a tobacco shop a few doors away if you want to stock up. I would definitely recommend this hotel and use it again myself

ROOMS:
Very nice, beautiful wash room/toilet. Safe, hairdryer. Lovely decor very relaxing. Very very comfortable beds.

HOTEL ENVIRONMENT AND DECOR:
The hotel lobby and environment really sets the scene for a Bruge trip. A bit of a medieval feel with a splash of modern. Very clean and welcoming with a novel revolving door as you enter the front reception area.

HOTEL FACILITY'S:
Free wifi. Massive television and large seating area to view in the lobby. Nice quite reading area with open fire. Baggage holding facility.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Overall the customer service was good and helpfull. We requested a diffrent room on arrival as we was given a room looking out onto a wall and we wanted to see out, the gentleman behind the desk was happy to swap us for another one and it was looking out onto the square. Brilliant result and great help.
***Bad customer service point***
*** We was awoken at 6.30 in the morning due to renovations on the bulding connected to the hotel and it sounded like someone was drilling into our headboard. WE DO UNDERSTAND THESE THINGS HAVE TO BE DONE, and it was not the hotel but building next door. The issue is we was not made aware of these renovations at the time of booking or on arrival or at anytime untill we was abruptly woken by it. The manager told me the next day they knew of the renovations 2 month before i booked my room so the information was there to give me and in allhonestly i would have chose a diffrent hotel as to get a full nights sleep.
Unfortunatly when i spoke to a lady behind the reception desk she was not polite or helpfull or nice at all she was rude and i had to speak to the manager who gave me a free room upgrade which i had to use at an nh hotel in 6 months (unlikely ill get chance) but he was ploite and dealt with my issue unlike the women i spoke to. she even tried charging me for a breakfast i did not have!!***

OVERALL EXPERIENCE:
Hotel is very nice and relaxing and clean and in general good staff. Lack of information provided in our case made it a bit sweet/sour but WOULD recommend to anyone stoping in bruge and i WOULD stop again.

Room Tip: as for a room looking out over the square.

Though this hotel is very well located next to the market square - a short walk to the centre, and perhaps 15 - 20 minutes walk to the railway station along a well paved footpath and through a pedestrian underpass - nevertheless, the location is quiet. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant, and the hotel was spotless throughout.

The room was one of the best we’ve stayed in - spacious, very clean, a comfy bed, nicely decorated, and a nice bathroom. The room had air conditioning and heating - the temperature controlled by the guest. The room has a TV, but only one English channel, albeit the channel list said there were two. No big deal really.

There are two lifts and we never had to wait more than a few seconds for a lift.

There are two comfy lounge areas and a bar, and a small range of newspaper for guests to read.

The hotel has free wi-fi which we found very reliable and adequate for checking and sending e-mails, though not for downloading or watching videos. (The bandwidth is up to 128kbps). It also includes a remote printing facility, which is a nice touch. You ask at reception for a voucher with the username and password, which lasts 24 hours, and then if you are staying for more than one day, you just get another free voucher.

We stayed B&B and the breakfasts were fine. We would have preferred to have had evening meals there rather than walking round windswept streets peering through the windows of half-empty nearby restaurants, wondering which one might be best to take a chance on. However, the hotel evening meals - though nothing special judging by the menu - were ludicrously expensive, and I don't really understand the business model. There must have been at least fifty to sixty or more guests in the hotel while we were there and we never saw more than four or five in the restaurant. So the hotel incurs the fixed costs of the restaurant and kitchen staff, heat light power etc, yet gets hardly any income from what would have been the marginal cost of the food. This is bizarre and makes no business sense whatsoever. Instead of the restaurant providing an income stream, it must surely be a loss-making overhead. Seems to me that someone is asleep at the wheel if they don't make a connection between what they offer and how few of the guests eat in! It's not as though Bruges restaurants have much to offer in competition - they don't. (We tried four during our stay - none were very sparkling, all were overpriced). Had it not have been for this, I’d have awarded five stars, but it’s a criticism of the hotel’s marketing philosophy - I can’t comment on the food or service as we didn’t eat in, except for breakfasts, which were fine.

We’ll most likely stay at this hotel again should we visit Bruges, and based on our experience, would certainly recommend it to others.

this hotel, based in an old monastery is very welcoming with bright cheery staff and a wealth of features. this was our second visit and although not upgraded this time ( were given a fantastic suite last december) the deluxe room supplied was large, with two kingsize beds and a lovely view over the garden and a little church. fantastic bedding, towelsetc.although shower screen inadequate and left puddles on bathroom floor. small cozy bar had great atmosphere and breakfast buffet next morning supplied almost everything you could think of. loads of nearby restaurants and a relativly short walk to main sqare and the centre. would reccomend the historium tourist attraction and made our usual visit to the gare bar on briedestrasse, find it if you can but dont tell anyone else. for ease of access, carparking and facilities this hotel takes a lot of bearting.

Room Tip: have always booked a deluxe room which have been great.all rooms quiet, perhaps a little more noise o...

We arrived at the hotel at 10:30 a.m. The receptionist was really kind and welcoming and provided us with some convenient information, however, she had to tell us that our room was not yet ready. We asked for a room in one of the highest floors and we were offered a room at the second floor and we got an upgrade, so we were happy. She kindly offered to accept our bags for the luggage room and we went into town.
The location of the hotel is very good as you can reach it very easily both by car and by train/bus and still you are in the old city centre. At the end of the afternoon we returned to the hotel and got a room at the ground floor. We told the receptionist that we were promised a room at the second floor and an upgrade and she immediately changed the room for one in the second floor. The room was nice and provided with everything you need. However, we found some empty candy wrappings in the room. We were surprised but took no further notice and relaxed for some time. Then my husband decided to go to the bathroom to find that that had been used. We decided to return to the reception. The receptionist was clearly embarrassed by what we told and immediately moved us to another room. We got two vouchers for a drink in the bar.
After this incident we found our stay very comfortable. The hotel has a nice atmosphere and personnel is all very kind. Breakfast was really good and though very busy at the time we were there everything was always there.
We liked the bar as well, the bar tender was really kind and gave us some advice regarding the beer. The fitness room is very well kept, which is not always the case in a hotel.
