“Sense Of Humour a must have”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We had lunch there in August after reading both good and bad reviews. We sat outside on a very hot day. We had 2 small spaghetti's and a jug of Sangria which we shared with our neighbours as it was pretty strong. The Spag wasn't brilliant but it wasn't bad either. Add a little Tobassco for a kick. We were served by the owners son who was quite sweet. The owner is a bit flamboyant and he has a wicked sense of dry humour. A lady next to us left her sunglasses in the bathroom. He came out wearing them and talked to her until she noticed he had them on. We all had a laugh. He may seem big and rough around the edges but he loves a good laugh. We gave a Tip to his son and you could see fatherly pride in his eyes. If you go there expecting gourmet dining at a 5* place you will be dissapointed. If you don't have a sense of humour, stay away. If you want a good, inexpensive meal...this place is for you. I would go back and have the same thing.

“A cheap haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

I had read about this place, and despite some mixed reviews we stopped here for lunch.

What followed was a refreshingly cheap spaghetti bolognese for 4 Euros and one of the strongest jugs of Sangria I have ever had. We shared with our neighbours :) This was quite refreshing after many of the establishments in the area that like to overcharge.

Martin, the owner, does have a wonderful, dry sense of humour, once you get past his exterior. He likes to have a joke. We did find that many Flemish people do have a cold exterior, but really open up once you talk to them.

Martin's son was there to help and was thrilled when we gave him a tip, as was his Dad. We will go back, and do not hesitate to recommend. Thank you Martin, and family.

“So rude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012 via mobile

We came here to eat as recommended by the map we had for some cheap and tasty spaghetti. We entered and spoke to the ?owner/guy behind the bar in dutch so as to respect the culture etc. He rudely told us no room, all reserved. So we moved away from the counter and I asked my partner where she wanted to eat instead. In that 3 seconds this guy again says, "all reserved for tonight, you must go." Have not been treated this poorly in the 3 months we've been in Europe. Not to mention only half the tables were occupied and we saw people sitting down to eat once others had left tables without reserved signs.
Came back to our hostel and read the reviews and am not surprised to read that other people rated the service poor and rude. Up to you but I would not try to eat here again.

“Good cheap filling food for young travellers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

Good cheap food - a small spaghetti bolagnse cost 4 Euros and is huge and very filling, don't get the large at 6.50Euros you will never eat it all. Other dishes on the menu also cheaply priced. Close by to the main square, we sat outside. Had 2 bowls of pasta 1 small , 1 large , a large salad and 2 beers only cost 18 Euros - very cheap in Bruge. So if you looking for a full belly at a low price and don't have too high expectations then go here. Wsa really busy and you can sit out on the street. Service was really good all be it by a 10 year old boy, he was very efficent.

“Value for money- small family run place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

As a vegetarian, it is extremely difficult to find things to eat in Europe. I saw a mention of Brasserie Medard on wikitravel and it said that the place was veggie friendly. Well 4 euros for a massive bowlful of pasta is fantastic! Do try the pancakes and waffles too, though they only serve them till 6 pm. It is a small family run place, with cartoon network playing on the TVs and slow service, so don't go if you want quick service. Reservations highly recommended, we were lucky to find space on our visit, but that is just because we were only 2 people. And it closes around 8 or 8;30 pm. But if you are hungry and on a budget, the place to be in Bruges!
