“Real Basic - clean & Free Wifi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

The hotel is really basic, very small clean room but convenient for 2 nights. Very near to train station. About 15 mins walk to the Burg/Markt or take a bus right in front of the train station. Smooth and fast check-in. However, the sign to the hotel from the steps once out from the station should have changed to IBIS BUDGET, instead of the previous ETAP. Convenient with a Carrefour express where you could buy some drinks...could hear the train in the morning. Afterall its value for money as it comes with the free wifi.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not facing the train station if you are a light sleeper.

A budget hotel tucked next to Brugge/Bruges Central Station, where we enjoyed a one night stay after a day sightseeing in Bruges.

Once you manage to find it up the steps to the right of the station exit between 2 modern apartment blocks, you enter a modern reception with friendly, helpful staff, small seating area and vending machines with snacks and drinks.

Modern lifts to rooms with key-code entry. There are no frills here, clean and compact rooms, with a shower within the room, and a toilet separated by a door. There's not loads of floor space if you have big cases and need to unpack or if you're staying for a few days as there's little hanging spa e. But for one night when we were using backpacks it was fine.

It's about 15 min wander in to the centre. But if you walk to town through the park by the lake opposite the station it's a lovely picturesque walk in. Plenty of photo opportunities along the way.

Rooms were quiet, beds a little firm for my liking, but shower was great.

Overall a cracking little budget hotel, which at about €45 a night was great value for money for an overnight stop off in Bruges.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the front of the building and reception. There was no noise to speak of. I don...

I wanted something cheap that was relatively close to the old town. Ibis budget met the bill, on paper. Having read previous reviews I knew it was on top of the train station car-park, which was just as well - the GPS didn't recognise the address provided with the booking confirmation! However, I was able to find the hotel easily enough once I reached the car park. Parking was only 3.50 euro for 24 hours (with free bus travel - although I didn't realise that until my last day!) - excellent value so close to the city.

The hotel was clean, and rooms (while spartan) were clean and had everything I needed - private toilet and shower (big enough for a normal-sized person), TV, bed (on the hard side, but I quite like that) and free, reliable wifi.

Excellent value for less than 50 euro per night for a double room. Staff were helpful.

This is a budget hotel and I have ratted it versus other budget hotels that I have stayed at around the world. I stayed here on a last minute vacation and the price was 1/2 of the next cheapest place I could find. The rooms are small even by European standards but were new and very clean. It was still called the Etap Hotel when I stayed there in October of 2011. It was €168 for three nights and that was with breakfast.

The location is right at the train station. There was not great signs to get there but it is basically in the same large development as the train station is. You can see it from the train. It is around a mile from the city center. I walked it for the three days I was there and enjoyed it but there are buses right there at the train station that will take you to the city center.

Breakfast was an ok layout and pretty standard fare for Europe. It was always crowded when I was there but I never had an issue getting a seat to eat and I was there close to the end and there was always a good selection for me to pick from.

Again if you just want a clean place to sleep for cheap with a decent breakfast than you will be hard pressed to beat this hotel.

This is right next to the train station - it was earlier called the Etap hotel - it is difficult to get to because of lack of directions but is a 2 minute walk from the train station. Take the elevator on the right hand side and then look for directions for the Etap hotel.

The hotel is very much a budget hotel, so don't expect too many amenities. A bunk bed above the normal king bed meant the three of us had a pretty compact room. However, I admire the design. There was a TV, pretty decent airconditioning, clean sheets, towel/soap. Quiet at night despite being close to the train station. The bath cubicle was weirdly on its own, with an open top i.e. letting all the steam from the hot water into the room.

Breakfast was €7.5 but I did not try it - there is a super market just a couple of minutes away where you can buy your own breakfast, not to mention the coffee shops at the station.

It is a 5 minute drive from the centre of Bruges - but the buses right outside the station are comfortable, regular and quite convenient. I would recommend buying the €9 multi-ticket (10 trips i.e. €0.9 per trip). If not, you can get the €2 single trip on the bus.

The staff were generally helpful but at times it can get busy and you have to wait. No phone in the room - so you have to walk to the lobby to call reception and they can't send anyone because there is only person down there - don't expect any room service.

However, I would certainly recommend for those really keen to save money.

We booked this hotel because it's right next to the train station and very cheap.....so we didn't expect much. The service and the room however was fantastic. It seems to be quite a new hotel, which might be the reason. Reception were very quick and helpful, giving us maps of the city without asking and a calendar of events.

The room was very clean and some cute lighting effects. The shower is actually within the room (the toilet is separate)....some might like this, some might not! The only change I'd make it to provide better pillows.

Breakfast is very basic, but that suited us fine.
