“A touch of class..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

After arriving back from Bruges after a short trip via the Eurostar for a two night stay at the Huis 't Schaep, I can honestly say I have been blown away by the place. A short walk from Bruges train station we arrived at Huis 't Schaep to the most warm welcome. John was informative and gave us a map tour of local attractions. We were then shown to our beautiful room, one of only four in this guest house, 'The Renoir' suite on the first floor. Beautiful and tasteful style throughout, his & hers sinks, huge walk in shower and just off the Main Street so very peaceful at night times. The breakfast was also delicious, perfectly balanced, each course brought to us was elegant and thoughtful, fresh fruit, yoghurt, choice of hot selection, fresh pastry and bread basket, cheeses and meats and gorgeous tea and coffee. The subtle music in the background also made it an even more enjoyable experience. I honestly felt like I was was fine dining as opposed to having breakfast! I also asked for a tour of the house which was just lovely. This place is an absolute gem and I felt very lucky to have booked here. It's not often that you stay at a place where you cannot fault anything about it. The care that the owners put into this beautiful home can be seen throughout. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

We have enjoyed a superb four day break in Bruges enhanced by our stay in this wonderful B&B. Everything was to the highest standard. The host Rob was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for him to make our stay comfortable. The room the Renoir Suite was excellent with a large en- suite bathroom. There are tea and coffee facities and an honour bar, but the real highlight was the superb breakfast served in an exquisite dining room. The house is quite unique with an interesting history central to all museums and other places of interest and yet is located in a very quiet street. Not cheap but great value.

Everything about our stay was good. My wife and I aren't particularly fancy people, but the host, the breakfast, and the accommodations were all high-class - and we appreciated it. We were only in Bruges for about 24 hours, so we did spend most of our waking moments out in the town. The suite was excellent, the bathroom was large. The accompanying sitting room was well-adorned. The lounge and balcony also looked very nice, though we didn't spend time there (closed after 2200, I believe, which was too early for us). Our host gave us all the information we could ask for - where to get an out of the mainstream brew, where to rent bikes, where to eat - you know, the important stuff. The location was very quiet, but close enough to everything. I was very pleased with our choice to stay at Huis 't Schaep and would certainly recommend it to anyone.

Stayed for four nights at Huis 't Schaep and we weren't disappointed. The moment you step through the doors you are in for a wonderful stay. The house is beautiful and very impressive. My husband and I were in the Renoir suite and had plenty of space but also lovely and warm. A huge comfortable bed, huge bathroom with his & her sinks. This room is at the front of the building and the hotel is situated in a quiet backstreet, however you may hear a little noise from around 7 am as Bruges comes to life. John was a wonderful host. Breakfast was superb, beautifully presented with fresh fruit to start, a yoghurt with a different freshly prepared topping each morning, followed by a choice of eggs, then bread, croissants, cheese and ham if wanted. The room was cleaned and tided everyday so if you are an untidy person beware! The decor is amazing. The whole building is so clean, in fact this must be the cleanest place I've ever stayed in. There's a lovely terrace which you can use, and have a drink from the fridge in the lounge and we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather to make use of this. (Drinks need to be paid for but are reasonable). At times it did feel a little formal, our friends stayed in the Rembrandt suite which had it's own separate sitting room with TV however you had to sit and a dining table to watch this. However, that was a minor point and we would definitely stay again if we were to visit Bruge. A truly remarkable building with a fascinating history.

Room Tip: Renoir is the basic room, (apparently) but excellent.

Had 4 fantastic days in a wonderful city with my wife. The excellent food and wonderful beer was just part of a great experience in a city full of history and great places to visit. Walked around quite a lot and even took 55 minutes to walk to Damme (?) .....and when we got there had to take time out in another great restaurant.

Each of our days started with one of the best breakfasts you could experience and wish for. This was provided by John with an approach and service level that was exceptional and fully appreciated. The level of attentiveness and information provided by John during the serving of some fantastic fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs and ham, smoked salmon and some of the best cheese ever just gave you the start that can only come from quality food carefully prepared.

The standard of the room and the house was also brilliant and there is history all over to to admire. I would highly recommend this B & B to anyone looking for great quality and location.

When we go back we will stay here again!

Stayed here for 3 nights in the Ruben's suite the room was spotless, very large, lovely bathroom and although very quiet it was in a perfect position to see Bruges. The service and breakfast was first class and John and Robert always had time to advise you where to eat and about Bruges.
John could see i loved the house it was historic and beautiful and he had no problem taking me and my wife round. We were very lucky with the weather and choosing Huis 't Schaep as a base to stay when we go back to Bruges its the only place we will stay, Perfect thank you.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Rubens suite, it was quiet, large, lovely bathroom, would stay in it again, but all...

Best hotel i stayed in Europe. Very friendly staff, gave me the best tips of Bruges. Huge room, huge bathroom. Located in a calm street, very close to main attractions. Great breakfast, with many choices. I loved Bruges, can't wait to go back and stay at the same hotel.
