“Nice place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013 via mobile

Been here before and didn't disappoint with another visit this time. Good to see lots of locals in there each time we have been. Meat cooked in front of you to how you like it. Apple pie with Calvados or the cheese is a must.

“cosy restaurant; best grill in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

The Maximillian has always been a regular haunt when visiting Bruges and our recent visit did not disappoint. The Cheese Croquettes and Prawn starters were first class and we were able to watch our main courses go onto the grill in the main part of the restaurant. Everything was cooked perfectly. Yes, the wine on the wine list is expensive, but the house wine is good, the service friendly and attentive. I'd definitely recommend it to those who like a cosy atmosphere, a good steak or mixed grill and a bit of romance!

“Something Special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

The location is relevant here because you can watch three dozen swans glide around the waters of the Minnewater across the street from the restaurant and also the famous horse drawn carriages taking tourists around the block. We had a hastily arranged farewell dinner for a group of over twenty people. The staff handled it well and were very friendly. The fixed menu entrée was very good if not spectacular. I believe their regular menu would have been more in keeping with the whole establishment. We’d like to return because all the ingredients of a memorable dinner were there.

“Great for mussel-lovers!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

We couldn't go to Bruges and not have mussels and this is a lovely place to have them, as the restaurant overlooks the Minnewater. The mussels in white wine were plentiful and tasty, the French fries were excellent and the and the service was friendly. The wine was rather expensive but that seems to be the case in Bruges as a whole. As a tip, if you have an aperitif the waiters won't bring your meal until the aperitif is finished - we couldn't understand why our mussels were taking so long to arrive until the waiter explained that that's how they do it in Belgium.

“Dinner with Taste”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Staff were extremely warm and attentive without being overbearing. Food quality and quantity was perfect for a romantic (if I do say) dinner out. We were advised by our consierge to try this restaurant when my husband requested an out of the way place, but within walking distance, with a nice steak. Seated in front of the fireplace we enjoyed every portion of our meal. An escargot starter, Chateaubriand for him and grilled lobster for her. I had no idea it was going to be a live lobster and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was quite busy but we still felt attended to. Cudos to the staff and chef. Give it a try if you are heading to Bruges.
