“Accessible local museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

M hosts a number of antiquities which originate from the city or the region. Nice renaissance collection of religious paintings, relics and curiosa. An audiotour with explanation on most important pieces is present

“Located in the heart of Leuven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

Its newly renovated museum. I really enjoyed roaming round the museum then sitting at the cafe located on the ground floor.

“Diversity”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

This museum displays both religious art from the Middle Ages as cutting edge modern art, so its collection is highly diverse. Do not expect a strong connection with the city of Leuven. It is probably too much to take in in one trip, so choose beforehand which parts of the museum seem most worthwile. It is open at thursday evenings till 22.00, so this is very convenient since you can save your visit for the evening hours and in this way have a little more room for other sights during daytime. However, it was uncomfortably quiet during the evening, in most rooms we were the only visititors.

“Part museum, part exhibition space”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

For me, a museum exhibits old things, it's a place where you go to learn about history. The lower levels deliver this in quite spectacular fashion. There is a display of religious carvings and statues dating back hundreds of years, which you can just admire, or better still hire an audio guide for just one Euro in a variety of languages. This gives you some fascinating information about the exhibits. The upper levels are exhibitions of modern art. To me, that's not a museum and not something I really wanted to see. More historical pieces would be much better. As it is called the Museum of Leuven I also expected to see and read information about the history of the city, not modern art.

“Too much for one visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

When we were there, there were several exhibitions going on. Too much to give each one of them enough attention. So we will have to come back one day. The architect combined in a very clever way old stuff like a classical entrance gate, an old school building and a giant tree with new functional elements. I loved the stone he choose for covering the new building.
