“What a Hotel Should Be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014

I originally planned to stay in Brussels, but a lack of availability in my preferred hotels forced me to stay in Ghent at the Marriott. I am very happy that I stayed here. I had read some good reviews, but now I have experienced the hotel for myself.

Driving to the hotel is a bit of a challenge if you are not familiar with Ghent. Make sure that you use a GPS or smartphone with a GPS feature. The hotel is right in the heart of Ghent near many restaurants, museums, cathedrals, and other places of interest. The hotel sits next to a canal. The setting is postcard material.

When I checked into the hotel, the staff was incredibly professional, and they maintained this professionalism throughout my stay. The high speed internet actually has a nice speed. The hotel restaurant offers a nice menu, and the breakfast is good. The hotel also has a fitness room. I was given a large room overlooking the canal. I can't say enough about the neighborhood around the hotel. It is incredibly nice. My room included a robe and slippers. When it came time to leave, I was sorry to leave. It was a great experience.

This hotel is fantastic. We have stayed multiple times and as Americans it has all of the things that make it feel right at home. The rooms are large and spacious. The staff is superbly helpful. Anything we needed they were able to help with and if they didn't know they were happy to find out for us. They even called and made reservations for us since we weren't sure how to call or make reservations in Belgium. It's perfectly situated downtown where you can walk everywhere or take the tram around town. They also offer free bikes for those staying to take around town.
Best stay in Europe!

We spent 5 wonderful days at the Marriott Ghent Hotel between Christmas and New Year's. The location is perfect, right in the Old Town and on the canal. Walk out the door and you are in the middle of medieval Belgium. Cobblestone streets take you to the Gravensteen Castle, the historic churches, and the belfry. The staff at the hotel treated us royally. Our room was in the quaint waterfront part of the hotel. It was huge and modern, yet with wooden floors and cute windows in keeping with the historic style of the old buildings. We spent several wonderful, relaxing evenings in the glass-roofed lounge where you can get drinks and light meals. The restaurant was lovely and we celebrated our 50th anniversary there. Again, the staff was attentive and the food was well prepared and tasty. The view was unparalleled. A very romantic evening!! We would return to this hotel at the drop-of-a-hat. Finding it can be a challenge and parking in the garage is a test of your skills, but the stay was well worth any frustration.

Room Tip: We loved our waterfront room and the view on the canal and historic buildings. Cost a bit more, but...

We only stayed here 1 night while attending the Ghent 6 day cycling event but had a very comfortable stay. The hotel is slightly deceptive. The front facade is a beautiful old building but once inside it opens out into a modern and stylish interior. It has an excellent location - close to the central attractions. The castle is well worth a visit. It was November when we visited so we didn't do a boat trip but you could pick one up right outside the hotel if you wanted to . The room was very comfortable and had all the amenities you'd expect. Breakfast was fantastic, everything you could want and the staff were extremely helpful. I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying in Ghent.

How nice, my 3 grown up sons went for a long weekend to Gent with me. The eldest had organised the hotel, it turned out to be an excellent choice. Big rooms, very clean and rather luxurious. ( tea/coffee, free internet included) the breakfast was everything one could wish for and the location is AAA. But the most important thing always remains the friendliness of the staff. That was outstanding.Caring and hospitable, seeing to all our needs and more. We would love to come back to Gent, ( a veggies paradise, by the way) and we will certainly choose this hotel again!

The best location for a hotel, good service and a really good bed! Because of the restaurant nearby, the bar can offer really good food. The lobby is very huge en and provides a nice view to het Gravensteen while drinking your cocktail in the lounge bar.

I wouldn't say it was a typical Marriott, it is more stylish in my opinion. It was comfortable and very conveniently located to enjoy Ghent on Christmas Day. Did not eat at hotel restaurant but did enjoy bar area.
