“What a great hotel. Ticks all the boxes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

After having been robbed in Brussels we were a little apprehensive to be spending a further 5nights in Belgium. However this hotel was just what we needed. From the moment we walked in everything was perfect. The staff were so helpful and did all they could to make our stay enjoyable. The room was so comfortable, and spacious and we really appreciated the little extras that the hotel provided like the ironing board and tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The location was fantastic being right on the canal. So handy to everything. The design of the building is very innovative, is light and airy and gives the feeling of spaciousness. We would definitely recommend this hotel to stay in whilst in Ghent.

Room Tip: Maybe a room overlooking the canal might be nice but as there is so much to see in Ghent you are har...

I've just spent a weekend in Ghent staying for three nights at the Marriott Ghent. The hotel is in a perfect position right on the canal in the old part of the city. Although we weren't fortunate to have a room overlooking the canal,we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of space and the quality of the room, definitely above average size with two double beds and plenty of drawer and hanging space for clothes. The room and the bathroom were both cleaned to a high standard. We had breakfast every morning and an evening meal on our first night, all very enjoyable. I would definitely recomment this hotel.

I had a 3 night stay recently (2013) at Marriot Ghent. I was amazed with the hotel in several aspects. First of all it's location, it is cited in the 'traditional' old part of Ghent, the most beautiful part anyway.

The overall building and architecture, with this 'internal' open space area, makes you feel you leave in a spaceship. The rooms were of high quality, well designed and spacious.
Do not forget to have a go on the hotel's restaurant, really great food.
The personnel was friendly, excellent use of English and always helpful.

There was one minor thing that I think they could improve, the wifi internet connection. There was good wifi signal reception in all the rooms but the connection to the internet was occasionally problematic (ups and downs).

Excellent stay overall, if you can afford it, it is a safe and quality choice!

Perfect location and just steps from many outdoor cafes and restaurants. The castle is around the corner and many beautiful cathedrals. With the old buildings and cobblestone streets, Ghent is a romantic city!

Stayed 2 nights for a conference base on Trip Advisor reviews. Good location. But was rather disappointed on staff lack of knowledge of what Hotel has to offer, although they all were friendly and tried to be helpful. Examples - the Healthy start breakfast menu says House made Bircher Muesli. The staff thought this was normal muesli cereal. There was no Bircher Muesli available. Had a meal in the lounge area as the restaurant was full, and asked about the chef's special dessert. It was described to me as a coffee crème brulee. Turned up as a sickly sweet caramel/butterscotch flan, with a few dots of coffee flavour on top. Asked at the bar for an Irish Whiskey (made with Jamesons in the bar menu) - I had to stop her as she started to use Red Label. Other issues - design of hotel is such that rooms are off a large central open plan atrium. At 1.00am I could still hear noise from the atrium, sound travelled. And it is so vast and cavernous, it is not cosy. At Breakfast, you had to decide what you were going to choose before you sat down and looked at the menu. The fruit tasted unpleasant - the mango was fermenting and fizzy on my tongue, the other fruits (orange and grapefruits segments) had a chemical taste to them.

Ghent Marriott is a great hotel in Europe. Most European hotels have awful beds and small rooms. The Ghent Marriott is an exception and conforms to North American standards. Rooms have 2 double beds and are a good size. They are nicely decorated and have 3 chairs, a large desk and lots of shelves and closet space. The bathroom is also a good size. The beds are very comfortable. Rooms have a/c and heat that works great. The rooms are extremely quiet. The staff are very helpful and the front desk answers all requests promptly.

The fitness centre is great, with 2 ellipticals, 2 treadmills and 3 bikes. The equipment is technogym and is commercial grade so you can actually get a good workout. There are also free weights. The breakfast is quite good. Large selection of cereals, yogurts, meats, cheeses, buns, fruits, boiled eggs, make your own waffles, scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms and several other hot breakfast items.

The location is great, right in the middle of the old quarter and close to all the sites. There is a grocery store down the street.

We changed our reservation to stay here in Ghent for 2 nights and 1 in Brussels instead of 3 nights in Brussels. Great idea!! The cost to stay is cheaper, you are half way to Bruges via train.
If you have luggage(instead of a backpack) the Marriott is a little difficult to get to since they are constructing at the train station in Ghent and the train comes in on the furthest track. Then you have to find the tram and get the luggage on the tram. Unfortunately the Marriott website says it is 9 stops on the tram when it's only 7 by our count. Then you have to pull your luggage about 200 yards over cobblestones, then down a flight of stone stairs, then another 100 feet to the Hotel.
Other than than, it is an Oasis in the middle of a throwback yet modern town in Belgium. Frederic at the front desk was great. The girl the morning we requested a cab 90 minutes ahead of time, no show cab, girl not so great and not apologetic to us missing a train.
