“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2010

Had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Harmony at the end of the Ghent Festival. My room was lovely and spotlessly clean, the staff were very helpful, and the location is terrific. Breakfast was very good, and the outdoor pool was the icing on the cake, especially after a hot day's touring. I would book it again without hesitation.

Stayed at Hotel Harmony in Ghent for 3 nights. Great room at rear in the roof with lovely views over the city. Found staff to be particularly helpful, porter went out to shops to find me hair conditioner. Lovely buffet breakfast and even though we were late 2 mornings, this was not a problem. Would recommend for couples. Only downside is trying to get to the Hotel by car as Ghent has a lot of small one way streets and the signage is none to clear.

Great hotel, pricey but worth it, we stayed in one of the big duplex rooms at the back of the hotel, it was ideal for a young family of four. The outdoor heated swimming pool, the quality of the room, the excellent breakfast, the location, the parking, the friendly and knowledgable staff all added to a great weekend in Ghent.

We stayed here based on the reviews on this site, and were not disappointed. We had a junior suite with a canal view: the room was large and nicely decorated, with the original wooden ceiling and a comfy four poster bed. A minor gripe would be that there was no comfy chair or sofa to flop into, although there was room for one. There was a wonderful remote control fireplace, but, as mentioned elsewhere, the air con unit only went up to 24 degrees - we rang reception and they immediately increased it. Another small gripe - the bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a very stylish opaque glass door, but there is no night lighting in the bathroom, so you have to put the main light on if you use the bathroom during the night, risking waking whoever is with you. The bathroom has a separate WC, and a freestanding bath with smallish corner shower.

The public areas are very nice, but the bar was empty so we didn't use it (or our free drink voucher), preferring to find somewhere with more atmosphere. That wasn't difficult, as the Harmony is very centrally located. Reception were very friendly and helpful, but there was a 10 euro charge for the internet, which was slow and kept losing the connection. The breakfast buffet was very good, and they will happily cook eggs and bacon on request.

We had pre-booked the car park which is a very tight space under the hotel: when busy you have to leave your keys with reception.

Right on the canal, behind the facade of an old mansion, hides a luxury boutique hotel that manages to perfect every detail. Wonderful.

This is a great stylish hotel on one of the main canals. Very central to the main squares and in the Patershol district which is the best area for restaurants specialising in local cuisine. There are many within one block of the hotel. We stayed in the junior suite which was fabulous with fire, big bathroom with free standing bath, huge separate shower, 3 windows overlooking the canal, tea/coffee in the room, huge 4 poster style (fringes!) bed. The only complaint as others have said was the low lighting level even in daylight. We had to use a torch to see into the wardrobe, night vision goggles would have been handy! Fine for cosy ambience but not for reading/getting dressed. Next time we stay, we will ask for brighter light bulbs. if It would be interesting to see a Management Response re this. Parking was very convenient and safe in their underground garage but you must prebook. Breakfast buffet was extensive, everything you could imagine from sweet to savoury, you could even make your own crepes. Staff very friendly, courteous and helpful. We need to visit again in the summer as unfortunately we had bad weather but there's lots to see in Ghent and a boat trip would be nice.

This is a fabulous hotel and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Ghent. We booked an exceptional double room and had a picture window with a gorgeous view over the canal (floodlit at night) and a four poster bed. The bathroom was unusual with a free standing bath and separate walk in shower/separate toilet facilities. This hotel is in the historical centre with lots of nearby restaurants and a very short stroll to the centre and the shops.
We enjoyed all the extra touches like the little box of Easter eggs in the room and on the breakfast table. There were little red candle lights above the fireplace (but we had to buy our own matches). The breakfast is very good, with hot choice of eggs etc. or cold meats, cereal, pastries.
Only a few minor downsides - firstly those pesky energy efficient lightbulbs in the room. Although there were plenty of lamps it was tricky to read at night. Also - we didn't pre-book parking and there were no places left! Not a huge problem as there is a massive (cheaper) underground car park a short stroll away which the hotel directed us to - but take note if you want your car nearby. The car park entrance (underneath the hotel) is found a few turnings away from the hotel in the back street - a bit tricky to find - but ask the hotel for directions before you go there - so you know what you are doing.
Would highly recommend this hotel.
