“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

The hotel is located along the main north/south highway and is a short drive from the city center. It is located next to a recently built sports stadium. Our hotel room was rather large and clean. It was quiet and overlooked the parking lot. There is free parking with a private lot. The hotel has a very nice bar and restaurant. We ate dinner in the restaurant and had a nice Italian (pasta) meal. The complimentary breakfast was nice. I would recommend this hotel.

We stayed four nights over the 4th of July weekend. On the plus side is the easy access off the highway and the cost of the hotel is affordable. The booking site indicated that breakfast was not included, but to our surprise there was a nice breakfast and it was included. This help offset the parking fee. This was the first hotel I have been in that didn't have a refrigerator in the room. We usually bring our own water (without gas) and will also keep leftovers fresh to snack on. There were only three towels, for four people so I had to make a towel run before bath time. Not a problem, as once we asked the staff made sure we were covered on towels. I know conservation is a "thing" now at hotels and they ask you to use your towels more than once. The towels at this hotel are just too skimpy and thin and rough for this purpose. The hotel should invest in more absorbent fluffy towels and hanging them and reusing them will be more appropriate. Also our room had a chipped mirror in the bathroom and mold growing in the corner of the shower. The tiles in the shower were cracked in a three foot long line up to the top of the shower from the soap basket. The hair dryer was really a poor model and no longer blows even warm air. Still I think this was a good value for us - a family of four. We don't want to spend all our money on our sleeping arrangements when we travel, yet we want to be comfortable. The service staff could not have been nicer so I feel this hotel is adequate for the price you pay. We had free wi-fi so that was also a plus. Don't order the Belgium Waffle here though - you will be greatly disappointed.

Room Tip: Our friends on the 5th floor complained of water pressure issues. We were on the 2nd floor and didn...

I stayed here because friends visiting had booked the place to see the city. Can't recommend the hotel for this reason, but for passing through for a night stop could be all right. I found the room rate rather high for what was in the room. I also had to pay 10 Euros to park my car. The dinner menu was limited unless you have the buffet for 22 Euros. The breakfast was average. There is free WiFi, but took a while to connect to it.

Had a weekend here with a touring football team from north wales, superb hotel comfiest bed I ve ever slept great staff good food. Wonderful city enjoyed the Friday night in the gaslei having some great food and a few local beers the local people are incredibly friendly. One advantage of a touring football team staying here is the hotel is situated a stones throw from the hometown football team KAA Gent s sparkling new stadium the ghelamco arena, and they were playing at home on the Saturday night luckily. I spoke to the barman in the hotel (an anderlecht fan) he informed me that it's usually pretty easy to get tickets unless they re playing one of the country s big three (standard liege, club Bruges or anderlecht) fortunately they were playing mons and we went and got our tickets (range from 25 to 60 euros) I would recommend it if your staying it was fantastic and gent won 1-0 !

We used this hotel for two separate overnight stops between Netherlands and channel crossings. Inside the hotel you get standard Holiday Inn express fare delivered without fuss. Breakfast is free, self service, basic but plentiful.
The place was clean and competent and did everything we needed. There is free basic wifi service but we were upgraded to the premium wifi service. Normally this is chargeable but free for loyalty club members.
The hotel location is ideal for the motorway but not so close that you can hear any road noise.
The car park is spacious and looks reasonably secure. As others have said it costs 10euro to park there. There doesn't appear to be any realistic option of parking anywhere else. There is a bit of building work going on at the restaurant but this did not affect our stay in any way at all.

Room Tip: I expect the rooms are all the same as each other.

Stopped on the way to Holland and had two rooms with three single beds. Clean and welcoming but limited facilities. Plenty of choice at Breakfast.

-ve :Felt cheated that I had to pay 10euro parking.

Dear marob37

It's great to read that you have enjoyed our spacious rooms and the facilities. I agree that there is a charge for the parking, however we do offer complimentary breakfast buffet and free wifi in all our rates, so this certainly adds lots of value to your stay.

Hope to see you again next time, in Gent!

Sincerely
Laurens Roels, Hotel Manager

This hotel is undergoing refurbishment, they do not tell you this on booking.com !
so allowing for the fact that they are having a makeover
1) towels - i can see daylight though mine ( is this fact a make over problem - I don't think so )
2) piped music quite loud in the restaurant , entrance and all public places - i don't want my music choices chosen for me thanks
3 ) food - restaurant prices 23 euros for a main course = oh please even the chef came out to see why the restaurant was nearly empty, stayed in holiday inn Englos night before. So much better in the restaurant , nice fresh omelet and restricted menu that someone could do reasonably well , this hotel needs a major kick up the backside , if you are refurbishing and guests are staying then everything else should be as good as you can make it within the parameters of Holiday Inns = this frankly is not . I rest my case , hopefully it will improve but I would give it 12 months .

Room Tip: I suggest you ask for a room at the back , this is a hotel off the motorway convenient and quiet...

Dear sir, madam

Thank you for taking the time to inform us about your experience with the Holiday Inn Express Gent. We are indeed refreshing our bar and restaurant. However, at this moment we are building a spacious conservatory outside the restaurant. There is no construction work going on whatsoever in the building.
As from June 1st we will start inside the building. At that time we will move the restaurant and bar to the Great Room area, so while we are working towards a great new dining experience, our guests will still be able to enjoy a tasty meal or their favorite drink. This information will appear on all booking sites for guests between June 1st and July 21st.

With regards to your main course, 23 eur would be the price for a nice breast of guinea fowl, or a generous plate of Flemish Fish Stew. However, why not try our 4-course dinner buffet? You can eat as much as you like for just 22 eur.
If you prefer an omelette, a baguette or a quick salad, you'll certainly find something tasty on our Bar menu. As always, kids eat free in our restaurant.

I hope you will give us a try again this summer when everything is fresh and new..

Sincerely yours
Laurens Roels, Hotel Manager
