“A warm, friendly place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

We stayed at the "MELBA" for two nights whiles visiting the "Battle of the Bulge" memorials. The owners were friendly and helpful, rooms clean, and the breakfast (free) was absolutely delightful. I didn't look at the bar until the morning we left. It really looked like a warm and comfortable place for a glass of wine or adult beverage of your choice. It looked like your best friends living room. It just oozed "gemutlichkeit".
Parking is convenient, out back, and free. You can walk to Place McCauliff, which is ringed by restaraunts, including one called "NUTS", for General McCauliff's famous answer to the Nazis. We met several other veterans there, including a survivor of the "Battle of the Bulge". If we ever go back to Bastogne, we will gladly stay at the "Melba"! Arrival was confusing, as my GPS didn't know that Avenue Mathieu was now a one way street.

Wanting to visit the sites of the Battle of the Bulge, we were pleased with the location of this property...right off of McAuliffe Square, very near the train station, and a good walk to Mardasson & the battlefield perimeter. The family room was very nice, consisting of 2 rooms & 1 bath with a table & chairs as well...very spacious. Breakfast was average in quality...could have had better croissants. Service was excellent with very well spoken English & polite courtesy. Our room was quite clean with no bathroom mildew visible. There were some flies that appeared to have hatched out on the window & as is typical of hotels of any age there was a large amount of dust on the bathroom vent.

If you decide to make this trip, definitely check out Boy Scouts of America Transatlantic Council's Historic Trails...in there you will find a very good 'trail' with clear hiking instructions & information on monuments as well as a 'quiz' done scavenger style for the kiddos...and adults! (like did you notice the Patton Memorial shows Patton's helmet with 4 stars...he only had 3 during the battle!)

Room Tip: We were in the family room (it's on the end, so only one shared wall) on the top floor...very ni...

My husband, brother and I stayed at this hotel in May and were very pleased with it. The lady who owns the hotel was very lovely (her husband was a bit grumpy though)- the room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was quite nice. I would definitely stay here again. I can also recommend the Battle of the Bulge tour we did with tour guide Henri Mignon- he is a local who lived through the war and Battle of the Bulge as a child and who had a career in the Belgian army. He was very knowledgeable and the tour was one of the highlights of our month in Europe. Henri took us to see all the important places of the battle and the best part for us was sitting in the fox holes in the outskirts of Foy. Its a must for Band of Brothers fans!

We have stayed here several times now and can't really fault it. Breakfast is worth having.

It is close enough to Place McAuliffe but in a quiet (now one way!) street.

It seems that lots of the survivors of Easy Company 506th PIR (band of Brothers) have stayed here at some time and the foyer has some scrapbooks and information about "The Battle of the Bulge."

Excellent hotel just around the corner from the main square. The rooms were really good, and very spacious. Parking was good too. The staff were also very helpful and courteous.
Breakfast was of a good standard. Would highly recommend.

Hotel of a very high standard. Very clean. Very good standard room and bathroom. Separate breakfast area and restaurant. The restaurant serves an excellent standard of home made dishes. A very friendly hotel, highly recommended.
