“from drabness to wonder”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

It is a wonderful square right smack in the centre of a city whose modern architecture is more functional than pretty.

Restaurants, bars and various other touristy places are close at hand.

The architecture is pretty breathtaking and is easily on par with the best bits of European designs found on the continent.

Well worth a walk and I would imagine, it will be much more pleasant when it is less cold.

“february is the time to avoid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

It was very cold when we visited the grand place in Mons. To be very truthful, it seems that it is not a place worthy of much time and effort to get there. The town itself has its charms, although a bit run down, with small cobbled streets, and the Grand Place is pretty. But February is cold and all appeared quiet, despite the cafes and shops. The cafe that we went in have few people... so peaceful in a sense.

Maybe another time in summer might change my mind.

The centre of the town has undergone a significant amount of redevelopment & offers a wonderful place to while awy time, especially when the months allow for sitting outside. The convivial atmosphere & excellent character makes for a wonderful experience.

“A wonderful place to be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

It's my hometown... This 14th century place is full of history. It is sourrounded by bars and restaurant. When the weather allows it, sitting on the outside terrace, watching people passing by in this fantastic scenery, enjoying a good food or a fantastic Belgian beer with friends is a great moment.

“For your every mood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Need a break after a full day's work in brussels, go to Grand place. Need variety in food and drinks, go to grand place. Or just need simple food, still go to Grand place. Want to celebrate with friends, Grand place is the place. In love with architecture and cant get enough of it, ought to go to Grand place. Or you just want to listen to simple street music and watch the crowd as you lazily sip you drinks, gotta go to Grand place buddy.

Grand place is Brussels' answer for your every mood. And it doesn't fall short by any measure! It is beautiful and serene amongst all the noises and commotions of shoppers, passersby and tourists throbbing this place. Surrounded by some of the best chocolatiers, restaurants, museums and attractions ( manneken pis, flea market, etc..), you have just too many things to do in this place. But after a couple of visits you realize, you just want to indulge in some heavenly chocolat-ice cream waffles and stare at the majestic beauty of the architecture while listening to a lone musician playing his guitar or violin. Sometimes you even want to know how a caricatured version of you looks like, so you walk up to a nearby artist for one. And no matter how gross it looks, it just doesn't seem to diminish the happiness that wells up inside you as you leave this place.
