“Dump”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2008

Stayed here one night and I can't say I would recommend it unless you really want to stay near the Grand Place. Rooms are basic, bathroom needs updating, furniture came out of the 70's.

I asked reception for an extra pillow and they didn't have any. Breakfast, while good, is overpriced. No air conditioning so even the 2nd floor rooms are hot. Their website didn't mention that their sauna area is being renovated so it is actually closed. The dining area is being renovated also so breakfast was moved into the fitness facility and just outside of it.

Stay at the Mercure if you're going to SHAPE or Chievres AB.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2008

I've stayed here on a few occasions, however, the last time was the worst, I was allocated a single room, tiny, and cramped, on the top floor, where it was incredibly hot, even though I turned off the radiator, It was far too hot to be comfortable, and because of the sloping windows, it was very noisy when it rained, so for 4 nights I had ruined sleep, due to the uncomfortable bed, the heat , and the noise. I was glad to leave, Plus they never have enough staff, so on Friday morning you have to wait in line for ages to check out.

The breakfast is ok, plenty of choice, and the hotel is conveniently situated, But it needs a refurb, the furniture and decor in the rooms is laughable by modern standards, no aircon and no hotel bar or similar facilities to have a drink and a snack.

I will not use this hotel again, I prefer Mercure or Ibis.

The hotel was fairly basic but very convenient location and amenities. The front desk staff, without exception, was terrific. Very helpful and easy for me to communicate with in both English and poor French (mine, not theirs). Probably good German and others also, I would assume.

Dinner/drinks pretty much must be off site, but it's a quick, nice walk to Grand Place or other places. Breakfast was quite sufficient. Standard cereal, pastries, some fruits, with yogurt, cold cuts, cheese, juice, etc. The coffee is also quite good.

Can be noisy from street, other rooms, hallway, but not exactly a rowdy place, so it wasn't that much of a problem. Wifi was a little pricey, but they have a business center with computers that can be used. It probably also *seemed* even pricier since the USD is so weak. Prices in the mini-bar were quite stiff by their own right (even without the USD conversion) for small bottles of water, soda, etc. However, there's a grocery and convenient stores very close by. Fridge has extra room in it so you can just add stuff to it. At least there was one, I guess.

Hotel was clean and generally comfortable. Bedspread was looking kind of old, but it didn't spend much time on my bed, so it really only affected aesthetics.

This hotel could easily be classified as your run-of-the-mill business hotel but I was impressed by its close proximity to the Grand Place (a 5 minute walk) and its convenient underground parking garage. Another bonus was the massive breakfast buffet. Also, the room was very spacious by European standards and the bed was very comfortable. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.

The only negatives about my stay were the costly WiFi (8€ for 1 hour) and the noise level outside of the room. Right outside of our door (Room 109) was an open area that looked down to the front desk. Voices echoed up to our floor and caused it to be quite noisy. If you’re a light sleeper I would suggest requesting a room further down the hallway or on a higher floor.
