To be sure this is a very cosy niche and well-situated for those who live in the somewhat barren Sint-Gillis.
A disappointment, however, compared to fellow travellers' enthusiasms.
Gamberi al limone. We were warned that the plates were "very very hot". Well mine was hottish at one end but cold at the other. The prawns were on the leathery side and not as hot as they should have been. On the evidence I suspect that they had sat on a hot plate in the kitchen for a while but the hot plate was not so hot....flavour OK.
Saltimbocca......classically these are rolled layered with fresh sage leaf, proscuitto and then the veal escalope which is then tied before being cooked in the pan...these were flat and overcooked, the saltiness of the prosciutto thus coming out of the ham and being the predominant flavour, instead of fusing with the veal and sage if cooked in a rolled up fashion.
Oddly, served with spaghetti rather than a nice green salad.
We had nothing especially extravagant, but still €140 for three. Not, I think, great value for money.
Service? Slow and, Oh dear!, two more miserable waitresses it is difficult to imagine. As a result there was a sense of people getting a move-on and making a dash for the exit, so poor an atmosphere did they exude. A smile and perhaps a smidgen of human empathy works wonders. As it was, no tip.
The espresso was first class. Pity that it was difficult to enjoy, so great was the desire to leave the company of these two miserable serving girls....
