Sweet little and slightly alternative restaurant with authentic food at a more then reasonable price. Had an original but good tuna tartare.
Will come back

“I keep going back...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Being in Brussels for a few weeks and particularly in Boitsfort, the south of the Capital where one is still allowed to speak French without fearing some passive-aggressive repressions, I have walked the streets of this “commune” or suburb, enjoying the old houses, narrow streets and its renewal with younger families having spent money in making their home comfortable. Artists of all kinds are as well visible and a more intellectual ambiance emanates from all directions.

Although the streets are quiet at night, I had heard a noisier area and walking closer to the source and had discovered an amazing business corner, almost a sort of standing revolution.
An old neighborhood business which might have been a café of grocery in the past had turned into a local pub and keeping everything old from pictures on the wall, to bar to table using old sewing machine iron base with table top, to central heating with an old furnace and a lengthy chimney pipe contributing to the heat dispersion in this 3-room business.

Good choice of food from various origins and good choice of wine and beer to satisfy anyone in need of a meal with wet accompaniment. It is not a place for gourmets (this being the proper definition of gourmet being about the people searching for higher level of culinary, as opposed to ingredients being qualified as “gourmet” for the sake of charging more money for what should be a standard of quality), nevertheless, it is quality food for a local eatery where people can go with friends and enjoy laughter and long conversations from personal topics to politic to art related concerns.

One detail for travelers used to flip a plastic card to pay an “addition”, they will have to dig cash from their pocket to pay the bill, although of reasonable cost.

Poulou, the owner is as typical as it can be with a certain flair of the good ol’ hippie time with a strong but kind and welcoming character and the guardian of the tradition that created a more libertarian spirited ambiance and concerns.
The origin of the name is already tinted with the intention of being more of free spirited mind. Psylophone is a composite of Xylophone, the music instrument of percussion and the Psilocybin, a mushroom with hallucinogenic properties, although replaced these days by the “happy” pills only prescribed by authorized doctors.

The most amazing part of this Belgian pub or bistro is the terrace being built just outside of the narrow curb, occupying 2-car parking spaces on the street (well, let’s say 2 European cars or 1 American SUV…). It is the most though for place to speak with friends and anyone sitting at the next little bistro table.

I real charm, a sort of island, a planet on its own where one want to feel good. I met people from various nations finding what is sometime missing around the world or simply in other neighborhoods, driving many kilometers to have a good quality time in life, even for an evening.

I was also very attracted by the paintings exposed in 2 rooms, covering the walls with about a dozen art pieces from a local artist called Evelyne Toussaint of a talent certain (as opposed to certain talent) and of a very spatial inspiration. I am surprise that she is not yet known around the world.

Voila in resume my experiences at Psylophone where I find myself and inevitably drawn as if I was in search for a ‘happy” dose of time in my life.

“Un classique du quartier.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Nice atmosphere. Fun to be there with friends for a no thrills, average food, nice atmosphere place. Service is young & straight forward. Atmosphere is nice, big heater warms the place (don't sit too close when it's on coz it really warms the place up) staff is straight forward & no thrills. Food is not bad but not great either. I love the rose tea!

“Love this place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2012

I walk to here for lunch often (I lie down the street) and I just love it. I've yet to have a bad dish, ok I take the back, once my tea cake was stale, but other than that it is just a great place to eat. Affordable, unpretentious, helpful and cozy. The only time I had a bad experience was on a day a large group of work people came to eat and commanded all the attention and provide lots of noise. The staff still made sure the other people were taken care of but the large group was annoying (no fault of the restaurant)
