“Unforgettable times!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2014

Well, what can I say? The Grand Sablon is festooned with architectural treats that keep your eyes busy and nice features that keep your other senses occupied. It's one of the first places that I touched down in when I first lived in Brussels all those years ago. And I'll always remember the various cafes and shops in the area that is just a quick hop to either the Grande Place or the Marche aux Puces. Definitely give La Malcour a go for a quick repast and head over to either Pierre Marcolini for fantastic chocolate or some cake from Wittamer. You'll certainly be missing out on something special until you've spent some time on the Sablon.

“Architectural Beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2014

There is so much to do in Brussels; yet it gets so little respect compared to neighboring Paris or Amsterdam. The Grand Place has different types of architecture. Some going back to the middle ages and others added much later in the 18th century. Belgium was created out of both Dutch and French peoples and their language reflects it. They speak Flemish and French. You don't have to, as many also speak English too. There is so much to do and find in the Place. Shopping, eating drinking and of course; the original Belgian Waffle for a snack.

“A treasure around the corner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2014

After visiting the many museums and gardens in this area, Place du Grande Sablon, we were tired. We were on the verge of being cranky when we saw La Malcour. The sign out front said "quiche and salad 9EU$" so we headed inside to get out of the throngs of people.
Bridget brought us Chimay and Quiche.... Absolutely delicious and simple. We make friends with locals and this was no different. As I drew a small sketch of the cute interior, we met their beautiful daughter, Barbara and the owner and Morgan driver. It was one of our favorite days in Brussels. Advice: open yourself up to locals and smile.

“Visit During the Christmas Market!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2014

Went during a christmas market and it was one of my favourite days of our trip to Brussels - there were four tents in the square, one for each of the Michelin starred restaurants in the city and then a champagne bar in the centre.

The idea being that you could try some food from each of the restaurants (for a price - although as you can imagine the food was very impressive!) and then wash it all down with some champagne in the middle of a very pretty square.

After we took a stroll around the many antiques shops which line the edge of the square and then found ourselves in the nice little wine bar at the southern tip of the square.

I would definitely go back if there was another themed event on here during my next visit.

“Less interesting...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2014

Of course its one of the places you should visit, while staying in Brussels. But there is nothing special about it, even on Sunday, when there is an open flea market. Also there are lots of cars, because of the open car parking place.
If you are interested in antiques, there are about 50-60 quite well organized stand sellers to buy from. The items are in a very good condition and the prices are fair, given the cost of living in Brussels. I found a lot of old maps and engravings.
