“Excellent Hotel, Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2014

We had a wonderful stay at the Stanhope Hotel in Brussels. Very large clean room (and a king size bed, in Europe, I couldn't believe it!) The bathroom was spacious and after long days of walking, the soaker tub was a welcome end to our day. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the air conditioning worked like a charm. The hotel is in a great location. It's central to everything and it is easy access to the old and new parts of the city. It's also a short ride from the central train station to the hotel on public transit.

The only thing that really bothered us was the fact that during our 3 day stay, we only got 1 hour of free wifi at the hotel. I expect that a 5 star hotel will have complimentary wifi for guests. We ended up finding a local cafe with free wifi and for the same price as the hotel wifi, we got a coffee and a croissant and free internet! (About a 10 minute walk from the hotel)

Green Features: They request you reuse towels like most hotels, happy to help them be green!

Situated in an old building, some stairs for access. Welcoming reception, excellent service. Some bedrooms are on two floors, with a narrow staircase to access the bed area. A few minutes walk to downtown, also close to the European district. Several restaurants in the local area.

Room Tip: People with disabilities should request rooms that are on one floor (as several rooms have 2 floors...

i usually find something nice to say about each hotel or place, but this is not the case. here are just a few facts about my stay at the Stanhope.
air conditioning not working in the middle of the European Summer, it also leaked water all over the carpet in the room.
bathroom door did not close.
disgusting smell coming out if the bathroom,
poor service and no solutions at the points mentioned before, and the worst part it was expensive as it was paid a a part of a "Tomorrowland comfort vip package"

We got this hotel by the Tomorrowland people as a five stars hotel. But our experience was too bad. Very bad maintenanced and can not be quality for more than 3 stars.
Air cond leaking and NOT working, small and very sad room, bath amenities by dispenser like in Low hotels, toilette smell dirty, old chairs.
I know is an old hotel with a lot of history, but today status is not for a five star hotel AT ALL.
Will never come back there.
Tomorrowland people have to choose better their hotels, I visit a couple others friends has and they where away diferent.

Room Tip: Don't choose this hotel

A very good bargain out of season in central Brussels. I was received very well in the reception and the room was great with two floors in romantic old style with paintings on the wall and high wooden panels. I had the breakfast buffet which was generally good and well-assorted, but perhaps not worth the 29 EUR when you compare to the continental breakfasts at Hilton, Sheraton or the Pullmann.

We stayed at the Stanhope 21-22 July. Although I wrote a prior review saying that the hotel was good, I changed my mind. After I returned home I checked my credit card charges online, as I usually do, and found a second charge from the hotel which we had not incurred. The charge for the hotel room, incidentals, and taxes was correctly billed, but this additional charge was without any authorization from me. The hotel didn't advise me that they were making an additional charge so that I could have disputed it right then and there. Although it was merely $10 I find this to be totally inappropriate. I filed a dispute with the credit card company. I will not stay there again!

Room Tip: Ensure that your final bill is complete with no additions after-the-fact!

Stayed here for 2 nights on a quick weekend visit to Brussels with a friend. The hotel is located towards the EU part of the city and as such is about a 15 minute walk into the main 'Grand Place' area.

Initially we had to wait a long time to be checked into the room, which after an early start flying from manchester was not ideal- we weren't even acknowledged as we waited to be served- not a great first impression.

The room we were given when we eventually checked in was nice, with the bedroom area being on a mezzanine floor, and a small sitting area downstairs.

There was a strange musty smell to the room, and it seemed extremely warm for December!

We only stayed for 2 nights and slept well, so I can't really complain about the sleep quality, and we had paid a really reasonable price, so again I can't really complain about that, but I think I was just expecting something more than what we got...and left feeling a little 'meh' about the place. Not the best place I've ever stayed, but a long way from the worst.
