Location, Location, Location. Across the street from Brussels' main train station, Gare du Midi, this Ibis chain hotel makes life easy if you're lugging suitcases. However, like in most cities, being located next to a train station is not usually the most beautiful, clean or calm experience. This Ibis, while inexpensive, was worn around the edges and frayed from the high volume of use. They tried hard: the staff was friendly and professional, the restaurant was full and busy and the corporate standards of an international chain, Ibis, ensures that this hotel maintains more than a miminim level of cleanliness, comfort and organization. But not much more.
Most dissapointing aspects included the rough bed linens which neither felt comfortable nor particularly clean. The bathroom was appointed cheaply. The room was not small, but the carpeting and furniture all looked like it was from a sale at budget Conforama.
Staff was professional. Food at the hotel restaurant was respectable... maybe even above average.
A cheap option to rest/drop-bags when required by your train travel. But certainly not a worthy option from which to enjoy Brussels.
