“4* Hotel ONLY due to its central location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

Last weekend we stayed at this hotel on the top floor. The biggest drawback was that our window was looking internally. We thought that it might be quieter, but the acoustics made all the talks from the reception and dining area multiply. The room was also extremely hot (and I like warm) due to the non-stop floor heating to the point when it was difficult to breath.
Unfortunately, when you try turning the temperature down, you get a cold blow straight into your face, as the bed is positioned just in front of the ventilation vent.
The room and the bathroom are on the smaller size. Our double bed was two single beds together, which is not terrible, but the beds were very hard and the pillows are small with synthetic filling and rather uncomfortable.
The breakfast room does not have windows either, the breakfast itself was the usual continental choice with hot option of scrambled eggs, bacon and mushrooms.
On the positive side, the hotel is next to the station, Annessens (convenient for Gare de Midi, Eurostar) and within a couple minutes’ walk to the old part of the town (Grad Place). The room was in need of renovation, but it was clean and had tea/coffee facilities.
Even though we spent most of the time outside of the hotel, for our next trip to Brussels, we won’t stay there.

Great central position, 2 minutes walk from Grand Place, 100 m from metro/tram station. Good breakfast. Nice staff. The hardest bed ever. Room was good with some lacks in bathroom. When booking, be sure not to book internal room.

Room Tip: Don't book interior rooms!

Stayed here while on business in Brussels. Got a reasonable deal on laterooms.com, The hotel is near the Annesans Metro Station. So about 20 minutes on the Metro (1 change) from the EU district. (Brussels Metro could really do with improving their signage - but that's another story). Check-in was speedy and efficient. Room was well appointed, reasonably quite and comfortable, with a good view over the street. However I find it really strange that a supposed 4* does not have a restaurant or room service (apart from Breakfast) or a Bar. When you're on your own you don't really fancy venturing down the street after dark.

This is a decent hotel for a group of mates or a short business trip. And at around £55/night, that becomes very good value. Rooms are of a decent size and facilities are good. on the downside, the bed is only moderately comfortable (Small pillows especially), the shower over the bath in my room was arranged oddly, and the internet was very intermittent. The breakfast was uninspiring and there was no personal touch - but as I said, for £55 night, this was excellent value, and under similar circumstances I would stay again. Not sure I would do so with the other half, however...

At £60 a night, including a pretty decent breakfast, whilst within easy reach of the Grand Place, it was good value compared to many inter city hotels I have stayed in. A decent state of repair and comfortable bed, though strangely - for me at least - rather annoying small pillows. Staff friendly. Would certainly go back.

This hotel is a delight. Clean, cheap (great value at €50 a night) OK breakfast and very central (10 minutes walk from the Grand-Place. A few grumbles, the view (many rooms look internally to a central space within the hotel) and the grouting in the bathrooms is a bit tired, some of the fittings need maintenance (door strips sticking up), but overall the hotel is great value, has multi-channel cable TV and free WI-FI. Staff friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask about the view from the window and ensure to include breakfast on booking.

We stayed (a small group of blokes) one weekend in January. The rooms were of a reasonable size and clean with decent facilities without being great. There was a slightly tired look to it and some oddities (like a convection heater in the room, questionable air conditioning, and an old style TC and separate 'digibox') which would have detracted from a romantic weekend, but were no problem to us, and would likewise be fine for a business trip. The bed was comfortable though the pillows were small. Breakfast was adequate without being at all remarkable - but for £60 per night, all in all I would consider this good value and would return in the future.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Exe Hotel Grand Place Hotel in Brussels is set in a 19th century, neo-classical style building with a handsome façade. The exterior classicism is contrasted with the modern, minimalist interior decoration, where the universal lounge allows one to absorb the different ambiances of the Brussels hotel. Undoubtedly, our ensign is the central atrium lined in beige marble with a skylight letting in the light. Our guests immediately take a liking to this rest area where the fireplace, the bar and the comfortable armchairs transmit a universe of tranquillity in the very centre of Brussels.Brussels may indeed be a rainy city, with grey skies or even, too much of an administrative world. Maybe. But nobody can deny that the European capital has the most beautiful urban epicentre on the whole continent, because, without any doubt, the Grand Place irradiates such force over the city making one forget any other detail. La Grand Place is a gift that history and aesthetics offer our eyes. That is why it is worth seeking accommodation in its wake: be intelligent and treat yourself to the pleasure of enjoying the Grand Place and one of the most dynamic historical centres on the continent. ... more   less
